The feeding chart that my Dr. gave me at my son's 4 month check-up says to start water at 6 months, and it says no juice. So far the plan they gave me works, so I plan to stick with it.

I guess you can if you want but they really dont need any other liquids until atleast a year old...your breastmilk or formula is plenty for them.

this helps make the bowels move easily and I find reduces the cramping from gas.

I give my son water all the time...ofcourse it has to be boiled water...but i have given him water ever since he was born not a full bottle but babies should have a couple sips a day of water its good for them...and I think you could maybe give him a bit of juice watered down apple jucie...(watered down cause its not good for their teeth) Although I havent given my son anything other then water and milk I'm going to wait to give him the jucie until he's maybe 6-7 months!!

I dont think juice should be used to replace formula but as a filler inbetwwen or for constipation like I do, Imean babies get thirsty to but dont always want to eat at that point. good luck!

I've read they continue formula/breastmilk for the first year, it's not necessary to give them other fluids before then. If you're talking about juice, my advice would be to give it sparringly. I have a friend that is a pediatrician and she says that juice in the biggest problem in her practice. Unless you're giving it to your child to help with constipation, it really shouldn't replace milk because it's not as nutritious for them. Good luck!

To be honest I have been thinking about doing the same thing, I read up about it and it seems to be a good idea, it also gets them use to something other than formula or breast milk and used to the taste of water.

Well my daughter is 4 months old today and I have been giving her bottles of warm water since she was about a month old and about 2 weeks ago I started to give her watered down baby apple juice. I find it helps with the constapation from starting pablum. It's a nice substatute when baby doesn't make it to the next bottle. I did this with my 5 year old daughter as well and she was fine.
