It sounds horrible to say this - but it feels like in two weeks she has gone from a friendly, gentle, sleeping through the night and full of smiles happy kid - to hitting her friends back (she never used to hit back) waking once or twice a night crying and screaming, walking up to the dog or my sister and waking them in the face! Screaming at strangers and the dreaded TANTRUM THROWING!! And I thought I was going to be one of those fabled mums who has a kid without the tantys!

She is also pulling her clothes off in front of people and in her cot which can be very messy if she gets to a nappy before I do. She is shouting at others and being all round CRAZY its gotten to the point now - where im afraid everytime we step out she's going to loose the plot at me, or even worse A STRANGER! I keep thinking the horrible weather at the moment may have something to do with it, and us being stuck inside a little more than usual - but surely this cant be to blame for ALL the mood/behavioral changes..

I am about to start walking with her again before dinner to try tire her out - any other suggestions? Im at my witts end and feel like I need a week long tropical holiday for the first time since I've had her!!

They do say to ignore the bad behaviour, but that can be quite hard. We have started using the 'naughty corner'. We have the naughty corner as it can appear wherever we are so that if she has a tantrum or hits someone we can find somewhere for her to sit and cool off and realise that she cannot act this way, It also allows us to make her take responsibilty for her behaviour by saying sorry to those she has hurt before she is allowed to move out of the corner. She has resisted on occasion and has sat there for half an hour (with our intervention) but she is now learning. Girls tend to find their independence early and unfortunately this means they need to be taught a lot sooner as well consequences to their actions. Ohh and make sure if you use the naughty corner that you don't use it for everything, some of the smaller stuff just let it go.
Ohh forgot to mention, my almost 2yo was gorgeous and sweet and butter wouldn't melt in her mouth until about 20mths when her sister was born and then she started the acting out you have mentioned. As you can tell it has been going on for some months now - only way to cope I think is to deal with it in a calm manner...

I think it is a phase that these toddlers go through. I have a 2 year old son who for several months was screaming, throwing down things and hitting anyone in his path. I just notice recently that he has stop this behaviour and is now the sweet little boy. He sometimes gets a little rowdy with his mouth now that he is talking, but it is better than the screaming and the hitting. Be patient she will soon stop this behaviour. I wish you good luck..

My daughter sort of did that same thing...one week she was a princess and the next she started biting and hitting and just being fussy. Some of it was the other kids at daycare and because she was sick. So maybe its other kids? It could be stress, toddlers can be stressed too if there is stress at home or at daycare, if she is around someone who is in a bad mood it can make her that way too. She could aslo be getting some teeth if she hasnt already gotten all of her teeth in, it could be an ear infection or she could just be going through a stage. If it lasts or continues to get worse I would talk to her doctoer and ask him if its normal and if you should be worried.

My daughter has also transformed into a little monster these past few weeks! I'm pretty sure it's terrible two's making an early appearance! I just try not to appear frazzled by her behavior, I don't want her to think she has that power! We try to stay cool and calm when correcting her! With my son at this age, the more stressed I became when he was acting out, the more he did it. I think for the reaction!
