What was his birth weight? If your formula feeding does he spit up a lot. He might not like it. I changed my baby's Formula from good start powder to a concentrated one she's eating so much better now. Best thing I ever did for her. I also changed the nipples to Latex. It's easier for them to suck.

My daughter will be 3 months old on the 4th and she drinks about 7-10 ounces at a time and will go about 4 hours and 8 hours at night. The pedi said we are feeding her too much and try to space it out but She will just scream until she gets that bottle. She was drinking about 3 ounces at birth and she is always kicking and moving and smiling when she gets her acid reflux meds. If she doesn't get them then she will just scream in pain. But honestly, I don't care what her doctor says because her 17 month old sister ate this much and she is a healthy kid. I think if the child is hungry she will eat. If not, Then she will spit the bottle out

Don't know how much is 2 oz, but Danika drinks 120ml every 4 hours. She use to drink 160ml every 4 hours, but for some unknown reason stopped drinking, she drinks 80ml and then I force feed her 40ml until she had enough. but you can calculate it; baby's weight x 150 / by the amounts of bottles in 24 hours. (eg. 4kg x 150 / 5 = 120ml) so baby must drink 120ml per bottle.

i find that really odd as thats how much our daughter was eating every 2-3 hours when she was a newborn as i expressed for the first month (10 days overdue weighing 8pd 10oz) now that she is almost 3 months i am making her bottle up at around 7 oz (she is now formula fed and thats what the tin says even for a 2 month old) she usually only takes around 5-6oz though, she also sleeps from 12am-9am an when she wakes up has a full 7oz feed usually. she has around 5-6 bottles a day (every 3-4 hours) so i really dont understand why your doctor would say that it seems very odd. a baby will tell you if he's hungry so i would go off his cues and not what the doctor said as i do believe that would be very bad for his growth. Our girl at nearly 3 months is now around 13 pounds something (6kg so not sure exactly how much in pounds/ounces) and the CHN said she is doing great

Really? Wow, I am amazed by that advice. I was told that when my son was a newborn. He just had his 2 month check-up and shots yesterday and when reviewing his feeding routine, 5-8 oz every 3-5 hours the doctor said he was right on target. Is your baby gaining weight consistently?

My son was born 5 weeks early and my ped. wants him to eat more than that. He eats 3 to 4 ounces every 3 hours. I don't think you should let a newborn go for over 3 hours to eat. That might make them confused that it's night time. He ended up in the ICU caues he wasn't eating but 2 oz every two hours. And had a fever. He also has respirory distress symdrome. When a child doesn't eat properly they tend to have other problems. And end up in the hospital like mine, mostly for dehydration. Seeing a small baby get stuck so many times to get an IV in is the worst experence ever. So I think you should get a second opinion, if she eats more than what he did say.

My daughter is 9 weeks old and eats 5oz every 2-3 hours. She was a normal 7lbs 10 oz baby...now weighs about 12 lbs. She does not like to go more than 3 hours in between feedings! When she's hungry she does not like to wait! She never spits up...she's just a hungry baby! I think it all depends on the child honestly.

my son eats 7 oz at least 6 times per day. hes 2.5 months. my ped said after theyre over 8 lbs you should feed them 0.5 oz per lb of body weight every 4 hours. so if hes 10 lb thats 5 oz every 4 hours. my son usually only lasts 2.5-3 hours though except in the middle of the night lol

My baby girl will drink 4 - 4 1/2 ounces in a bottle. My doctor said that is good. She eats every couple hours during the day but then she usually sleeps about 10 hours at night before eating again. For more information on how much a typical baby eats please refer here: http://mommby.com/Breastfeeding_and_Bott...

That doesn't seem right. It depends on what they weight though. My little girl was born weighing 8 lb some odd oz and since she was about 4 weeks old she'll eat between 25 and 30 oz a day. She'll eat about 2-4 hours apart during the day, and go a 9 hour stretch at night. Each feeding she'll eat between 2 and 6 oz. I think it's normally about 4 1/2 oz for an average.
From everything I read this is how you figure out about what to expect them to eat: Multiply your baby's weight times 2.5 ounces
Keep in mind some kids need more and some need less. The more active the baby is the more they'll most likely eat. My son was VERY active and drank about 10 oz more than my little girl does at this stage. He was born kicking and hasn't stopped yet. My little girl is much more mild, and drinks less (and looks more chubby than my son at this age).

My little man eats 4 oz at every feeding and goes about 3 hours between feeds... sometimes 5 hours at night. His dr told me to feed him however much he wants but I think that is because he was only 4 lbs 14 oz when he was born so they want him to grow grow grow! He's now 9 lbs 1 oz and a very happy boy :)

My baby eats between 3 - 5 oz every 3 - 4 hours. She was 5 weeks premature (4lb 15 oz) so her feeding schedule was strict at first. Now we feed her as much as she wants and when she wants. I would be concerned if she was only eating 2 oz every 3 - 4 hours. That doesn't seem enough. But listen to your doc, they know what's best...ususally.

I have a problem with docs who try to put babies on diets. They will eat what they need, generally, if they are allowed! A healthy baby will know how much he needs and when to stop. I can't imagine keeping food from a baby when they still feel hungry. I would say go with your baby's cues and he will thrive well.
