Just wondering how many ounces your October babies are eating and how often? And also how much they weigh? My son. Was born October 23rd and weighs about 10lbs, he eats about 3 to 4 ozs every 2 to 3 hours. I breast fed my first son till about 2 or 3 mths old so I'm not really sure what he should be eating and how often.

my daughter was born 17 oct and is now takin 5oz every 3 1/2 hours going to try 6 oz bottles this week. she is sleeping from about 11 until half 5, 6. but this still tends to vary she slept untill 7 one mornin.she was 7 lb 2oz when she was born and is now 11lbs.

She is now taking her 6oz bottles and feeds every 4 hours, sleeping 11 untill 7. i feel like a new woman with 8 hours sleep.

My son was born Oct 26th and weighs almost 14lbs right now. He drinks 4oz of formula every 3hrs so about the same as your son. At night he sleeps longer so he skips a feeding. And this wk he has been acting unfulfilled like he wants more milk so his doc said at 3mos to start putting a little cereal in his bottle. Not sure I'm going to take the advice yet

30 oz? that doesn't sound like much. My NP told me that if he started needing more than 40 ounces or so, she would consider adding cereal. I think the rule of thumb is 2 and one half ounces per pound divided over the day.

My daughter was born October 9th weighing 6lbs, 15oz and now is about 9lbs, 1oz. I too have been breast feeding but my husband bottle feeds her as well. We are trying to wean and now combining breast milk and formula. We started with 3.5 oz and are now up to 3oz breast milk and 1oz formula. for a total of 4oz. It seems to do it for her for now. Someone did tell me the other day that you can feed them up to half of their weight in ounces. I haven't asked my pediatrician about it yet though. My pediatrician did say that it is hard to over-feed an infant because they will let you know when they are full. She also said if they seem to fuss after 2 hours after the start of their last feeding, feed them again and then up their intake in 1/2 ounce increments. I feed her approx every 3-4 hours during the day and then let her wake to feed during the night. I also do not wake her to eat if she naps during the day unless we have to go out of the house. I was always told to trust your instinct - you know what your baby needs and what works for one, may not work for another. Hope that helps!

My Son was born the 16th October and he has 9 ounce feeds every 2-3 hours and is 11lbs 1 ounce (6.1kilos) wakes up once during the night :) When I ask the Doctor about this she said because they wake less during the night they should make up through day. If he isnt screaming the house down from being hungry then your doing something right, it's all trial and error & all babies are different as long as baby is happy and gaining weight.

My son was born October 1st and is eating 5 ounces every 3 hours during the day. He is now sleeping 8 hours, but still has nights when he will wake up hungry. When he was born he was 5.14 lbs and now he is 10.6 lbs.

yeah we tried 5ozs but she either stops eating after 4ozs or she spits most of it up. she also has reflux so that doesn't help either. we just tried the cereal (1/4tsp in 4ozs formula) and she took only 3ozs and seems to be okay. she tends to have these bouts where she'll be smiling and cooing one minute and the next crying and screaming. That's where I get confused because I can't tell if she's hungry or it's the reflux.

Theresa, I'm just curious. Have you thought of giving her more than 3 or 4 ounces at a time? I know I thought it was a lot but my ped told me just to go up half an ounce at a time and he would be fine. That has helped in his sleeping...and mine too :)

It really all depends on the baby to be honest. I've spent many hours scouring the internet for bottle feeding answers and they all say the same thing "feed when baby is hungry" My little girl eats 3-4ozs every hour and a half during the day and every 3-4 hours at night. I'm thinking of giving her a tiny bit of cereal just at her night time feeding so she can get a decent amount of sleep but I'm still researching it. she weighs 12lbs now;) hope this helps!
