So who has had the horrible middle of the night cramps, and what have you done?
Last night I woke up with cramp in my foot, it was so so so bad, I leapt out of bed (which is more like a blobby scramble at this stage) and my husband eventually had to get out and push my foot back into position, nothing I was doing would release the cramp, it then flicked back into place and was back to normal.
Is it a hydration thing? or Salts? anyone successfully get rid of theirs?
I cramp occasionally anyway so am prone to this, but last night was the worst thing ever, I'd say worse than going through labour, I felt like my leg was going to tear away from the bone

my husband suffers with night cramps and i feel so helpless not been able to help him or comfort him.... i went down to the local chemist and bought a product called cramp away..... its all natural and it works ..... it mostly occurs after physical activity and i personally think he needs to drink more water and cut back on his salt intake.....

Go to Wal-Mart to the vitamin section and find these pills called leg camp medicine. my doctor recommended it to me and it really works. If I don't take them I wake up quite a bit through the night with leg and foot cramps. they are only about $4.

I have those all the time . I asked my doctor he said eat bananas because potassium helps prevent leg cramps and drink alot of water. Hope this helps :)

I am now starting to think its just a 'you'll get them if you get them' thing. I go to the gym 3x a week, one being a weights class and the other a spin class, so definitely getting more than enough exercise, and its not a too much exercise either as I do stretches and warm downs also. I'd actually think overdoing it with exercise would be more of the cause for cramps, I used to be heavily involved in sports while I was younger which depleted my body of salts and would cramp all the time, probably not enough water, mind you, my dad is a cramper, so it could just be who you are/genetic.
@Sam, funny you mention about your husband, I have to say cramp now if I jump out of bed so he doesnt think I've gone into early labour!!

I havent had a bad one since writing this post so fingers crossed...!!
Sometimes you can catch it before it cramps badly, and I think in your sleep often you dont notice until too late.
My mum told me that my dad was up with cramp one night in his leg, and almost crying in pain, and when it finally snapped back into place he lurched forward and whacked his head on the kitchen bench... so so sad but I couldnt help but howl with laughter, poor dad!!!!
So yeah, its not just pregnancy for some I guess!! LOL

How much exercise do you get everyday? Samantha's comments (about tight muscles) made me think that daily exercise might help. I was a runner during my first pregnancy and did not any leg cramps, I did nothing but chase my 1.5 year old my 2nd pregnancy, and I did have leg cramps so maybe that had something to do with it...!?!?

I am going to start having craps in my calfs again this pregnancy starting soon because I can already feel my muscles tightening up real bad at nite. I had them real bad with my first son and nothing I did helped. I didnt drink caffine and I drank plenty of water and I also ate bananas so I had plenty of potassium because I heard that helped, but nothing helped me I just had to deal. And mine where so bad I would wake my husband up because I would shoot up so fast in bedand he massaged them to help them go away and my muscle would still be sore all day the next day.

I have not experienced night cramps this pregnancy, but I did when I was pregnant with my daughter.

One thing my midwife recommended (with my 2nd pregnancy) was to eliminate caffeine from my diet and that did seem to help. I also tried to drink AT LEAST one full gallon of water a day. Good luck!
