Hi emily,normally you get a scan if you dont know how far gone you are,like you did at 6 weeks.Then you get a 12 week dating scan and then you have a scan in between 18-21 weeks to check everything is ok.So its roughly the same x

With my first, I only had one ultrasound at 20 weeks. With my 2nd I had two ultrasounds: 6 weeks and 20 weeks. With this pregnancy I should have three ultrasounds: 6 weeks, 12 weeks (for Nuchal Translucency), and 20 weeks.

So, unless you are having the 1st Trimester screenings for down syndrome, etc. I would only expect for you to have two.

normally they dont do an ultrasound until 20 weeks because thats when they can tell the sex. sometimes they may due one at 6 or 8 weeks to see if it is etopic or not. if they didnt do one at 6or 8 weeks sometimes at 12 to 14 weeks if there is a chance of multiples else most people have to wait until 20 weeks. back in the day they never did one unless there was something wrong.

with my first one they did my first ultrasoud at 21 weeks because there wasnt any complications and then my second ultrasound was after i started dialating to make sure my baby was head down. i had an ultrasound at 8 weeks this time because my periods where irregular and they needed to get a better due date. they have several ways to check and make sure your baby is ok without an ultrasound. as long as there isnt anything irregular they probably wont do any ultrasounds til around 20 weeks.

They usually only do another ultrasound if your blood work comes back abnormal or if you are having complications in the pregnancy.

Thanks ladies!(: Its not like im asking for an ultrasound every month. But it would be nice to get one like now..at 12 weeks so that i could feel better knowing that i seen the baby and it has everything...then it wouldnt be that bad to wait til 20-22 weeks..lol(: But with my first child...and as i matter of fact with my second child too i got atleast 4 ultrasounds and i have pics to take home...and none of my other pregnancies were high risk or even complicated?! So i guess thats why im freaking out now...bc with the others ones i was able to get the ultrasounds that i wanted..and with this one it just feels like im being jipped?! Anyways thanks again ladies(:

They only do the one ultrasound here at 20 weeks. They find out how far along you are using your last period, blood tests and the size and shape of your uterus. I think it's pretty crazy to need an ultrasound to tell you everything is alright, hearing a heartbeat has always been enough for me! My first I had 4 ultrasounds, but that was because I had a low lying placenta until 36 weeks..

sounds normal to me. They do the first one to verify how far along you are, then until the big anatomy appointment, they just do the doppler to listen to the heartbeat. I had an extra ultrasound in between with my last pregnancy because they couldn't find the heart beat at one of my appointments (scary!). They sometimes do the anatomy ultrasound at 20 weeks but a lot of doctors like to wait to make sure they are able to see every thing they need to see. As far as I'm concerned, wtih crappy insurance, I'd rather have as few ultrasounds as possible! lol so expensive!

They told me the same thing. I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks to make sure everything was ok because I was having some cramping and spotting. Then I went to my first ob/gyn appointment and she said that I will be hearing my baby's heartbeat at the next appointment in about a month or so but I won't get another ultrasound until 20 weeks or so. I don't like it because I want to see my baby. I'm very anxious. I don't think it's right that they keep us waiting so long in between ultrasounds either

Hi Emily!

I had the same happen to me but they said they would only listen to the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler, but I lied and told them that at my 6 week they didn't tell me if there was a heartbeat and I had been having some weird cramping. I am always anxious until i see the little peanut look like something and move around on the monitor. at my 6 week it was only a sac and they measured that...but as soon as she put the ultrasound thing on my tummy the baby jumped (on the monitor)! I am also going for a special ultrasound Nuchal Translucency US at 13 weeks and 4 days. It's part of the first trimester testing, and because im going to get this ultrasound they wont schedule me for my BIG one until 20 to 22 weeks.

I know that it's not right to lie but if they still wont do a quick one then i would go to a free clinic like planned parenthood and tell them you took a home test and it was positive and have them do one.
