How can you effectively stop a child from biting?

My 14 month old who has recently started trying to bite me when I don't let her have her way. I'm not sure what to do because I'm the only one she does this with. She's never done this to my husband or any of our other family members.

My daughter is 3yrs old and still does it? I've tried biting her back sapnking and all she'll stop for awhile and go back doing it.

This may be frowned on now but I bit my son right back with the same pressure he bit me. He never did it again.

@Stacy, if your daughter is teething, you should try getting her teething rings or something that she can bite on instead of biting you!

i think this is a great question, i am having a similar issue with my 10 mo old. She is teething, and ofcourse everything goes in her mouth but she has 7 teeth so it hurts now.

I agree with Jessica. My son also did this with me, but I let her know gently that it was hurting me and he stopped pretty quickly. I've heard that girls are more sensitive how other people are feeling than boys, so if you appeal to her emotions, she should stop.

Make sure you let her know that this hurts you. If she senses that you're upset, it might stop her from doing it. When my son bites, I tell him "ouch! don't bite mommy because it hurts"
