Overcoming Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is not a topic that is comfortably talked about in the open, however, it is a problem that affects this whole country. Here are some statistics that you may not have known.... - A woman is abused every 9-15 seconds in the USA -3/4 of domestic violence victims surveyed had one or more children under the age of 18 years of age --26% of murdered women are killed by their husbands or boyfriends -30% of women in emergency rooms are there because of injuries from abuse --Children are present during 80% of the assaults against their mother - 25% of domestic violence victims are pregnant at the time of the abuse. (stats from www.communitywelcomehouse.org) Domestic violence is something that lives & thrives on shame and secrecy... it destroys from the inside out. Cuts, bruises and broken bones heal in weeks, the damage done inside can take years to heal... and cannot ever be healed if we are afraid or ashamed to face it or ask for help. I am a victim of Domestic Violence, and I am speaking out to end the silence. This page is for anyone that wants to help put an end to Domestic Violence, and help heal or be healed of the suffering it causes. Wether you are a victim, know someone who has been, or just want to help... you are welcome here, this affects us all. Everyone is welcome to share stories, ask for help or guidance (recognizing when doing so we are NOT proffesionals, merely people who care), give advice support or encouragement .... I ask only that everyone do so in a respectful and loving way. It takes strength and courage to come out of the shadows of this & I will not tolerate anyone undermining or belittling ANYONE on this page!
