on two differant occasions, with a few days in between, while we are laying on the couch, my son will randomly start smacking me in the face, saying either "go" or "stop", if i say ouch, he starts saying that and laughs....not sure how to handle this behavior to teach him not to hit, and/or the meaning of "ouch" and "stop"

We had a biter, so I feel your pain. This is what I would suggest:
Firmly grab his wrist and tell him, "No, {insert name}, we don't hit people. It's not nice. It's not funny." And then put him in timeout for two minutes. Every single time he does it. He'll stop.
On a side note, this is learned behavior. You may want to see who either 1) he's seen do this or 2) is doing this to him.

My son used to do something similar involving pulling hair. The only way we got him to stop was to show him that it hurt by pulling his and asking him if it hurt. Sounds random, but it worked. I'm not sure how one would do that with face hitting though.
