does anyone have any advice for dealing with a 9 mo old who's on mommy mode? i'd like to be able to sleep throught the night and in my own bed again as apposed to the couch with my son who wakes up in the middle of the night and won't go back to sleep untill he's laying down with one of us.

I feel your pain...My son is 5 mo old and since he's been born he's never taken naps during the day and sleeps only 3 hours at a time each night. In fact, last night was the first time he slept through the night! But I was very consistent with him and made sure to have a regular routine of food, bath, playtime to wind down his energy, bottle, then bed. After a while they start to associate certain things with bedtime. I would lay him in his crib and walk out of sight - if he fusses, I let him fuss for 5-15 minutes and then comfort...once he's calmed down I repeat until he's fallen asleep. After doing this general pattern for two weeks, i think it has finally paid off!

The best advice I can give you is to be firm and consistent. It's easy for us to give in when we're so very tired, but in the end, no one (including the kiddo) gets very good sleep, much less solid sleeping habits. And yes, in the beginning, you're going to lose more sleep than you're losing now, but if you're calm, firm and consistent, in a week, you'll all be getting the sleep you want and deserve!! It's hard, I know, but I promise it's worth it.
