Gianna Jessen's Biography... giannajessen.com

Gianna Jessen does not quit. Giving up is not an option to her. Gianna has what she refers to as the "gift" of Cerebral Palsy. She weighed a mere 2 lbs at birth and the doctors said she would never be able to hold up her head, sit up, crawl or walk. She began to walk by the age of three years old with the help of leg braces and a walker.

Gianna doesn’t believe that her Cerebral Palsy takes away her life, but, rather, enriches it. . . she walks with a slight limp today and runs marathons. On April 30, 2005 she completed her first 26.2 mile marathon after running just over 7 hours and was presented with the coveted blank blank award! On April 23, 2006 she completed the London Marathon as well. She is now determined to run marathons all over the place, because she was never supposed to even walk!

Gianna understands the plight of orphans, being one herself. She was placed into the foster care system early on in life, eventually being taken into the loving home of a woman named Penny. Penny has been a mother to 56 foster children in her life. Gianna was later adopted by Penny's daughter, making Penny Gianna's grandmother. According to Gianna, Penny saved her life.

Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn't be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna's biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, "born during saline abortion"...this is what caused her Cerebral Palsy.
Gianna's travels and experiences have led her all over the world. Her life has been covered by many major news media outlets, including, most recently, the BBC News and World Radio, Sky News, and The Good Morning Show in England, reaching many people with a message of hope and conviction. In November 2005, Gianna spoke in several colleges all over Ireland and in December of the same year, spoke at a meeting held at the House of Commons in London. She has returned to England this year to speak in several parochial and public high schools. Gianna’s audiences include: churches - church youth crusades and women’s ministry retreats; various corporations as a motivational speaker; secular and Christian youth organizations and schools – middle school age through college, as well as several times before Congress - most recently having her testimony read before the Supreme Court in Carhart v. Gonzales

No, that isn't how abortions are performed. Saline abortion methods are virtually unheard of now, and they weren't supposed to be used as late in the pregnancy as this. Now, in late term abortions, we use dilation/evacuation. And only like 10% of abortions are after 13 weeks. Only 1% after 20 weeks.

3rd trimesters are extremely rare no matter what the propaganda says. They are also not legal in most states with the exception of medical necessity.

"You can seriously have an abortion at anytime during a pregnancy in the U.S.? That SHOCKS me! I am Canadian, and completely pro-choice, but that is just not right. I believe in Canada you are allowed an abortion up to 24 weeks (which in my opinion is still WAY too late into a pregnancy). This story is pretty amazing, thank you for sharing!"

Most US states do have restrictions on late term abortions unless there is a serious medical condition. However, this was ALMOST a national law, but when introduced without the part about *it's acceptable if the mother's life is in danger* it was vetoed, and never corrected.

Actually Krystle, there is no law on the books pertaining to abortion limits in Canada either. It is completely legal for a woman in Canada to have an abortion at any time during a pregnancy, until the baby is birthed. Most doctors, hospitals and clinics refuse to perform them after 24 weeks, but it is not illegal to have one done.

I've met this women, she came to Australia and spoke at our family church *while I still attended*.

Such a sad story, once she was delivered the nurse was told to leave her to die. The nurse secretly called an ambulance and snuck her out the back door to the waiting ambulance.

It was the clinic's practise that if the unwanted baby was born alive it was to receive no medical treatment and was to die as the mother had intended !

it makes you wonder how anyone can do that. Who has the right to decide which babies live and die !

yeah, the vast majority of states have restrictions on abortions, essentially prohibiting them post viability, with exception to severe medical issues. Even more would have those restrictions had they just put that exception in the laws. For whatever reason they haven't bothered correcting their legislation.

Anyway, good for her. I still don't care if people have a thousand abortions. I'm sure this was supposed to be some kind of motivational anti-abortion piece.

Thanks Laci, I was no intrigued I started looking it up. It baffled me cause my nephew was born the other day and he was 2 months early, perfectly healthy beautiful baby boy. Like I said I am all for a womans right I just couldnt imagine anyone wanting one so far along or it even being a viable option. But I see that even though it is legal doesnt mean that it is practiced.

You are a very well informed lady, love it!! :)

Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, New Hampshire. New Jersey, New Mexico (no partial birth after viability), Mississippi (but partial birth is banned), Ohio, Oregon, Vermont and West Virginia.

Some of the above states had laws to ban abortion, ruled unconstitutional by the supreme court, and the laws are currently not in place, so while the laws aren't enforceable at the moment, they are still there.

That is a beautiful story of strength a shear wil to survive.

Where is the us can you have an abortion as late a 9 months? I am all for a womans right to choose, but that is way to late, at that point that would be like puttin a dog to sleep, legal euthanization.

Wow! Great story! Is that how abortions are performed?? Saline solution to burn the baby alive? That part made me sick to my stomach. But the rest is a great story.

I was confused by how she could have an abortion so late too...over here in the UK by law you can't have an abortion after 28 weeks. They are also trying to change it to no abortions after 24 weeks as many premature babies have survived from being born at 24 weeks.

I am pro-choice, not anti-abortion at all, but it's shocking to me that if a baby is born alive during an abortion, they're told to let it die. That baby fought it's way to live, whether or not the mom wants it, it's alive. Good for her for surviving and still enjoying the life she almost didn't get.
