Birth Control while breast feeding

I agree. I was on Depo for 8 years before having the wee one. It worked for me. After the birth I didn't want to get pregnant again so soon. I spoke to my doctor and explained that I was breastfeeding. My doctor felt Depo was suitable for both me and the wee one. He even checked this to make sure before agreeing to give it to me. I have had problems with other forms of contraceptive. I don't trust condoms as they can burst. I have restarted Depo at GP's advice and have had no problems so far.

we've been drinking cows milk filled with hormones, and soy milk with hormones as well. havn't turned into some bigbreasted, hormonal being yet! (i wish, lol)
look though, in all seriousness. i do get what you are saying, i just think there are better ways to do it than making people feel guilty for choices they make that they believe are right for their families. if they didn't breastfeed i'm sure someone would critisise for that as well. it seems like mothers can never win no matter what we do. people make INFORMED choices all the time. why does everybody assume that people who do things differently are less intelligent or uninformed?

I understand some people don't want things shoved up their uterus, personally I use condoms. I am just saying for women who don't want to use condoms that anything with hormones in it DOES effect the child, maybe not now but later. For example one thing is in baby girls it causes them to grow breast sooner and start their period sooner at even 6 years old.

some people don't want things shoved up their uterus, some people don't like condoms or have a bad reaction to them. some people like to actually have a period so they know if they are pregnant or not each month. some people take tylenol while pregnant, some people choose an epidural.
studies have shown time and time again that these are all things that are not harmful to the child. until there are studies that show otherwise than i think it will be ok.

Having something stuck up my vagina when I don't have to and it's not for fun... no thanks!

I was on Depo after my girls were born since I was too sleep deprived to remember to take the mini pill at the same time each day. I would never reccommend Depo to anyone, but it worked well for us WHILE I was on it.

Abstinence has been a very effective birth control method this time around. ;)

Personally I could never have an IUD, I just don't like that type of birth control. I plan to go on the mini-pill. With my son my dr gave me the regular birth control pill and later I switched to the mini-pill due to supply issues (which my dr still says wasn't from the pill). My son is perfectly healthy and I plan to do the same this time around.

This is a good site for the information. Apparently some birth control pills are safer than others and have shown no adverse effects on the baby. Personally, I was never on the pill while breastfeeding my kids, I just used condoms because my hormones are a bit nuts after pregnancy.

I went on the shot while breastfeeding. Apparently there are no long term effects that's all that matters to me. J is healthy and happy, and I didn't get knocked up again. Win Win.
