Even though I could sit here and name numerous "unexplained" things that have happened to me, I am still not a firm believer. The creepiest thing to happen to me was when I was living with my grandmother. She was at work and I was atempting to watch TV when I heard someone walk into the kitchen, stop, then walk out. It sounded as if they stopped at the table which was across the room from the door. It was the sound of someone wearing boots! I thought maybe it was her neighbor and thought nothing more...until I heard it again! I waited until it left and looked out the kitchen window and realized the neighbors were not home and all the doors in the house were locked. I shut the door between the kichen and the livingroom and actully hid behind the couch (LOL). I heard it one more time and then my grandmother came home...she understood wht I was talking about and laughed when I told her it scared me. At that same house, I took a picture of my friend, but when we got the picture back, there was a young man stnding in front of my friend! I had never seen tht guy before but have had dreams of him since. Kind of creepy!!

thank you Ashie, does the picture show? it doesn't when i look at the posts.
Also, here at home, the other day, i heard a door close upstairs, i was just about to go look and see what that sound was when the door that goes to upstairs opened but nothing was there. I went upstairs and checked the windows, because we did have them open with the nice weather we've been having, but we had closed them all with the rain from the other day.
It has never done that in the years I've lived here. I don't know what it was. Maybe a draft from the attic or something. Maybe the door wasn't latched like i thought it was.

My stepson was murdered this summer. He is 31 years old, has given us a beautiful 2 year old granddaughter. My grief seems to get worse each day. I'm in counseling.
I've always kind of wondered, but am not sure what to believe. I'm normally a very logical thinker.
But the day of the funeral, after we had all laid our flowers on his casket and were just lost not knowing what to do. someone said "look up!" It had been all day a blue sky, no rain, just a beautiful day, a light breeze. But up in the sky was this brilliant rainbow light across one little wispy cloud. It is my profile picture. We just watched it with such peace, everyone was silent. It was almost like a smile from Bob saying "it's alright, don't be sad, i'm ok"

Yep i do i saw my nanny when i was 16..i woke up and i felt a presence and a touch to my left shoulder..i slowly looked around and she was sitting on my bed..i wasnt afraid and i then went back to sleep peacefully..i spoke to my older sister the next day not knowing what i saw..i was able to describe my nanny to a t..i was only 2 when she died and i only saw one picture of her ever..her face..i never really saw her face when she sat on my bed but i could describe what she wore..it was her favorite cardigan my sis said....my sister was in shock. The say loved ones can appear at times were you may be stressed or afraid of something..i was sitting my school exams at that time i was very stressed..she appeared again a week after i gave birth to my first child at 19, she stood at the end of her cot....i now feel her presence but i have never seen her since. When i became a mom i thought of her a lot and how she raised us until she died and then we went into care,i have never been to her grave only as a small child, so i went when my first child was one and it gave me a lot peace.Maybe it was her way of getting me to remember her and to get to say goodbye finally and it gave me a chance to thank her for what she did for us.It helped. ♥i also felt her presence big time when i had serious complication on my second child..my partner missed the birth, but her presence helped me so much..gave me strength and i wasnt alone..spiritually.

absolutely!!! i have had many things happen!!! the only memory I have of my maternal grandfather was the day he died. I was three years old and I really don't know why I remember it but I do. I was in the living room (he died at home) and my mom called me back to the room where he was and I remember holding his hand and saying hi pappaw I love you and he looked at me and said I love you to sadie (my nickname) and he died. now i was scarred enough remembering that he died then but I later found out that he was already gone before I went into the room!
I was very close to my paternal grandfather and he passed when I was 17 and he used to drive a truck and everytime he came home he smelled like a mix of black licorice and big red gum and sometimes when I am feeling down or upset I get a whiff of that smell from nowhere and then its gone!
my husband, bestfriend, and i went to bobby mackeys bar in wilder, ky and we saw a shadow moving across a doorway and i have several pictures of orbs that are large in size and you can see through them! and I have pictures of things on the walls that weren't there.
This kind of thing runs in my family some of us are strong and some of us aren't and not all of us can do this! I am best with feeling, if something is there i feel it and I feel it very strong before it shows itself. I also remember when I was younger that I would lay in bed at night and there would be random faces "flying" at me in bed and I would always here voices calling my name...
I have other stories and some are to personal to share in the fact that I probably wouldn't make it through typing them without crying... I will kind of narrow it down a little that for some unknown reason I have "seen" every family member that I met (and remember not from when i was like a baby) within a few days after they pass... and believe me this is something that I really wish i didn't because it hurts a lot!

In one of the houses we lived in when I was growing up I saw a ghost several times (50+).
He was a young boy maybe 6 or 7 dressed in turn of the century clothes. I also frequently saw a dark shadow duck around corners.

Absolutly! Like Jocelyn, I have had WAY to many things happen for me not to believe and I actually went to the same highschool as Joce, just a few years ahead and the comp is a very haunted Highschool. ( theatre rehersals got down right creepy sometimes!) They (whom ever "they"are) say that children and animals can clearly see and are aware of ghosts and other supernatural things, because they haven't already grown up and convinced themselves its not real and animals just see whats there without a need to rationalize. I ♥ it :) We even went on a ghost tour for my stagette! Not one of the more eventful ones i've been on, but cool none the less!

Yes and Yes ! I have seen a shadow man with a hat in my old house he even made the floor squeak. My son would see him a lot and I have heard a woman call my name close like she was behind me when I was the only one home. For those who do not think ghosts are among us here is a question for you ? Do you have a faith that worships god ? Is he not a spirit (Ghost ) that no one has EVER SEEN ?

I am still not sure if I believe or not...I did work overnights in a nursing home for a few months and the night after a woman had passed away in her room...i was walking down the hall (and all the other nurses were in rooms) and half of our charts came flying off the cart...and there was nobody around! The other nurses who had been there longer said it happens all the time after someone dies...that for the next few nights weird things happen...so they alwasys opened the window of the room they died in (even in the middle of winter) : )

i think theyre real. i've had a couple experiences.
a few years ago, my mom, dad, bro, and me were living downtown (downtown was built in the early 1800s) in the town i live in here in indiana. my parents' 2 cars and my bro's car was parked on our street, and a guy who wanted to off himself flew down the street in his truck in the middle of the night at 2am and slammed into my bro's aveo, flipped over and into my dad's van and my mom's malibu, totaling 5 vehicles in the process, splattering his brains all over the road, and killing himself.
when i ran outside with my dad and a neighbor, i saw this blond guy with spiky hair walking around the site with his hands on his head saying "oh my god, what did i do, what did i do?" and i was like "are you ok??!!" to the guy. he stopped and looked at me with his hands still on his head, and walked over to me quickly. he disappeared when he reached to where i was and all i felt was a gust of wind. it was weird. my dad and the neighbor said there was no blond guy (and the guy in the vehicle had long brown hair).
and in a couple towns over, there's this old 1800s mansion called the Schenk Mansion (Vevay IN) that has a woman (the blue lady) that i've seen.
on a civil war battleground, i had caught a picture of a ghost-guy.

Yes and Yes also! My parents' house is well over 100 years old. Several previous owners died in the home. I was cooking dinner for my then bf (now hubby) one evening. We were the only ones there. I had the dining room light on and I saw my bf's shadow walking up behind me. I was waiting for him to touch my shoulder or something and when I turned around he was sitting on the couch in the living room. It was crazy. My siblings and parents have both said they've had weird things like that happen to them there. We have always felt safe and comfortable at our home so they must be friendly ghosts :)

Yes and yes.
I've had quite a few experiences with spirits (my parents house is haunted)
My sister and I heard music coming from the crawl space in the roof (we checked all over the house and outside for the source; there was none).
In our basement people will see lights moving around on the floor (like when you shine a flashlight down).
I've seen a guy, dressed in a red hoodie, jeans, and with black hair, standing at the bottom of the stairs (when everyone was upstairs, and Id never seen him before).
My high school was haunted and I use to spend a lot of time there at nights (theatre geek lol). I would see chairs move, hear the lockers rattling in the science hallway (like someone running along and dragging their hand across the locks).
I use to work at a liquor store and we had one customer who would come in once a week, walk into our cooler, and then never leave. *insert scary OOOOO here* lol. We'd have bottles rearrange themselves, and now at my new work (at a bar) I've seen coffeepots go flying through the air; with no one around who could have thrown them.

I think it could be possible. One story: when my father-in-law was about 20 or 21-years-old (about 1941), he had been driving home from someplace when he suddenly heard, out loud, his father's voice crying out his name 3x's. Visibility on the road was almost nil because of fog (which is pretty common here in N. Minnesota). He was so shocked that he immediately stopped his truck - because his father had died when he was 16-years-old. Within seconds of stopping, a train flew by the front of his truck within about 4-5 feet. If he hadn't stopped, he would have been hit by that train and undoubtedly killed.
Now if it were anyone else but my father-in-law, I would be quite skeptical. But he was such a man who never made up stories (ever). If he said it happened, it probably did. And he was pretty much an atheist by all accounts. So that's my ghost story and I'm sticking to it.

I 100% believe they are real. When we were burying my grandmother. My youngest was about a year old he kept turning around looking behind his stroller (nobody was there) and saying Hi Hi and waving. I swear my grandmother was there that day.

Many strange things have happened to me, including the "ghostly". I lump it into the category of paranormal. I'm incapable of defining what caused any particular event, and I don't bother attempting to because there are infinite possibilities, instead I just accept that there will always be things we don't understand, and these are just the many things I can't explain.
Jen - posted on 06/28/2010
I don't think so. Evidence is purely anecdotal.

I am a total cynic and don't believe in anything supernatural at all - I think everything can be explained logically - but I still get freaked out with some horror films like Hellraiser or poltergiest especially when I've got to get up in the middle of the night with the children. When they are tiny and I know I'm going to be getting up to feed them I refuse to watch anything scary before bed time.

Well, said like the agnostic I am, I'm not sure. I suspect that there are perfectly rational, scientifically explicable reasons for the occurrences that we see as "ghosts" or "spirits". But we are unable to answer those questions with the knowledge we hold at this time. It is entirely possible that a person's energy does not entirely dissipate when they die, although I have a hard time believing that the happenings we all connect to the deceased are necessarily connected to this. My husband has dreamed repeatedly of his father trying to tell him something in the years since he passed. He has these dreams at least every 6 months. I believe that it is his own subconscious trying to tell himself something, but I could be wrong.
Elisabeth - posted on 06/27/2010
Nope think it's not real at all. I respect what other people beleive but when I hear about people saying they can see or hear their dead grandma I just feel thats a bit disrespectful towards the sleeping. I find that if one of my loved ones passed away I would want them to go on to rest in peace not trapped in this world as a ghost or spirit.
Tanya - posted on 06/27/2010
I honestly don't believe in ghost. I do have a couple of stories.
When I was 8 my great grandfather passed away. When the phone rang I looked at my mom and said" he is dead". I did not wait for her to come back and tell me. I went to bed. When I got in bed I saw light in the shape of him. After I feel asleep I had a wonderful dream. It was all in black and white with some red. We played together all over his yard. Then he sat down with me on his back steps and said, " I have to go now. I love you." He went inside and closed the door. I woke up the next day and was at peace with his death.
When I was in middle school we moved into a trailer by the woods. The trailer was new so it had just been moved on the lot. One day when I was home by myself I heard a loud bang and all my shelves and pictures had fallen off of one wall. My brother said his door opened one night and a light came down the hall way and stopped out side of his room. At the time I did believe it was a ghost. Now I think more that likely the trailer settled or shifted and caused my things to fall. I think my brother probably had his door open a little and when the air came on it pushed it the rest of the way. The light may have just been car head lights going down the street.
I would like to go to Waverly Hills Sanitarium in Ky. I have seen a lot of show on it. I guess I would like to see a ghost for myself. Maybe then I would believe.
*Lisa* - posted on 06/27/2010
I'm not sure about ghosts. I get really creeped out watching ghost shows but my husband loves them. I believe we all have a soul so I don't think it's crazy to believe that ghosts are a possibility. My great aunt is heavily involved in witch craft and she had some pretty hair-raising experiences involving a mega-tall black figure that threw her against a wall in her house and messed her up a bit. Her daughter was coming home from school and saw the same figure in the driveway of their house. Could have been an elaborate hoax too.
I would not be interested in seeing a ghost at all! Unless like Dana said, it's Casper the friendly ghost who doesn't look.

There is this plantation home in my area that is said to be one of the most haunted houses in the country. It's called The Myrtles if you want to google it. There is a long history of the ghosts so I won't post it all. But basically, there is a slave that wears a head wrap because her ear was cut off for eavesdropping, the two girls she nannied and supposedly poisoned, a Civil War soldier that haunts the mirrors because they were not covered after his death and his spirit got sucked in...among other things. Here is photograph of the slave woman's ghost.
When I went there as a kid, I took a picture of one of the haunted mirrors. I got my film developed and you can see the outline of a man in the mirror. My friend and I were alone in the room when I took the picture. The tour group had already gone ahead, so we know it couldn't have been someone standing behind us.
And there are countless tales of people seeing or feeling the ghosts. You can stay the night at this place, and people that have stayed in the little girls' room say that around 3 am you can feel someone (the slave woman/nanny) tucking you in. People have heard the little girls playing in the hallway, etc.
Do I think it's real? Who knows. Maybe people's imaginations run wild when they hear the history. But it's fun to talk about!

We lived in an old colonial homestead when I was a kid, and we believe we had a ghost. We all used to hear him - he would walk along the verandahs and then straight through the front door and down the passageway at night. The door was locked. We weren't the only ones who believed we had a ghost - several people who had owned the house before us had also experienced the same thing. We all think it was the ghost of the original owner of the homestead.

Several years ago I experienced particular black things that looked like streaks in my home- they would slide across the floor and disappear into the wall very quickly. They lasted only two days and I have never seen them since.
Do I think they were ghosts? No. But something else I suppose.
