Just curious to see of the people in the community who are in a relationship...are you married, or un-married and living with your partner?

I am divorced from my kids dad and am in an amazingly happy relationship with a man whom I call my husband because we've been together for 14 years but we are not legally married. I see no reason for it. We've got our wills in order, we have our power of attorney's for medical and legal purposes, etc. Marriage is dying a slow death...that piece of paper to me means nothing. LOL...but I'm not sure you actually asked my opinon about it but rather whether we were married or not - sorry...I got carried away :)

Unmarried, but living with my partner. I guess you would say common-law... I have the ring, we just haven't had a ceremony. We've been together for 4 years, off and on. I got pregnant with our son after 9 months of being with him, but in the beginning he wasn't really "daddy material" so we broke up for awhile until he got his shit together. We've been back on for about 2 years now and everything is going great... I don't really feel the need to spoil it with an actual marriage.

I had a child with a man that left me before she was even born. We were never married (never even liked each other really). So, I was single for 3 yrs. When I met the man I ended up marrying, we dated for a yr, but NEVER lived together & NEVER had sex together either. We totally waited until our wedding night. That just happens to be the same weekend I got pregnant with our 2nd daughter.. :-)

i'm surprised so many people waited so long and lived together for so long beforehand! that's good though, u should be absolutely sure its right before taking such a big step, too many people don't take marraige as seriously as it is and should be. that being said, i got married 5 months after meeting my husband and we were only 19 lol... that being said though, i had said i would NEVER get married orhave kids, and NEVER even date a navy guy(navy brat my whole life haha)... but then i met my husband, who is literally me, but a guy lol. and hes navy of course haha.. we married august 2006, so it'll be four years married in august, but we've been together just barely over four years at this point. he is amazing, and im as positive as i can be that we will never ever get divorced, neither of us "believe" in that kind of thing.

Yes, we are married. Will be celebrating 9th year of marriage this September. They say if you have survived first 5 years of the marriage and your childs death you probably will be okay for the rest of your life. We have survived both so, it better be so. We actually met over the internet 11 years ago as pen pals. I then lived in Europe, he was one of my many pen pals and vie versa. I was also his tourguide when he came to visit me. He was doing so called eco tourism, where you vist your friend and stay with family and so on. We were pen pals for over three years before we got married. For the first year of marriage we were separated because of the paperwork. Eventhough I had to giv up my life and start from the new page it was worth it and I would do it all over again but just with him! :)

Christy, I can understand if he doesn't want a wedding because of the cost of a big party. But would he be opposed to just going down to the courthouse to make it official? If it's important to you, I would think it would be important to him.

i am unmarried, living with my boyfriend for 2 and 1/2 years, dating him for 5 and 1/2 years. my boyfriend doesn't see the need to get married since nothing at all will change for him but i think it will make me feel closer to him to share his and my daughter's last name. not to mention i don't speak to my father and my mother is remarried so i can't wait to get rid of my current last name.

I am engaged and living with my son and my fiance. I am so very happy. I cannot wait until our upcoming wedding day!! My son always asks me when we are going to get married....I love it!! He is my one and only true love. he is the first man that I have loved and been with for this long. I was just waiting for the right man to give my all to, and I have found it in two men...my son and my soon to be hubby!!! They are the 2 greatest men alive (and my daddy too)!!

We have been living together nearly 3 years and our oldest son will be 3 in september so that was more a rush to live together than anything :) but it has really worked out well. We plan to marry one day when we can afford it and not put us in debt ( b/c with kids that would be silly) plus at this point we are "married" according to the gov't and our family and friends!

My hubby was my first boyfriend when we were 14 years old. We went out a couple of times then didnt meet up again for 5 years when we were 22. We got married within 6 months of going out with each other and had a white wedding (well on my behalf anyway lol and yes I know thats a rarity these days haha!) We lived with each other platonically 4 months before the wedding.
And we have been happily married for almost 14 years come November with 4 children! Marriage and its vows are a very important part of our life.

Ive been married 12 years this year but we've been together for fourteen years. My oldest son was at the wedding kicking the crap out of my bladder. I nearly at to leave in the middle of the ceremony because of him. Typically when the ceremony was over and i went to use the loo it was out of order.

Gosh I feel old reading everyone elses answers. It's interesting to see how many people lived together before getting married. We did too, for three years. I think it's important to check that you can get along together before making the commitment of marriage.

And I guess I should add that for us, that difference was very positive and special :-)
Although I do know a couple who was together for 9 years and got divorced after 6 months of marriage. So I don't think the same applies to everyone.

We have been married for 5 years and lived together for 3 years before that. We didn't think anything would change when we got married, we assumed it was just a piece of paper and a fun party. But somehow it did, it is hard to explain or quantify, but that is how it was for us. I guess somehow having your relationship formally recognized by society and the state does make some kind of difference.

Not married but have been living together in a de-facto relationship for 7 years. We will get married one day, just so we can have the party, nothing else would change so we see no hurry, obviously lol.

We have been living in sin for 2 years together for 2 1/2...at this point we have no plans to get married...nothing would change just because we made it "official"...we would still be the same 2 people in the same relationship that we were in the day before...maybe that day will come but maybe not I'm happy either way...we do wear rings to symbolize the commitment but right now we don't need a paper to prove to everyone were in love and happy...

I was married for 7.5 years. Now apart 2 years (divorce was final in September).
I'm 99% sure that I won't ever be married or involved w/ anyone ever again. IF by chance I get involved w/ someone... initimacy will only come after marriage.
Of course, since I'm not WITH someone right now I probably wasn't supposed to answer this. ;)

married for 6 1/2 years, dated for almost 8 years, and i've known him for 11 years. i first met him when he was a little 16 year old boy working with me pushing carts, while i was a cashier. obviously had no interest in him then!! after a while though he decided he had an interest in me and pursued me relentlessly. i gave in and we've never been apart since!! :)
