On yesterday's "Tyra," Miss Banks talked to mothers who spend thousands of dollars on their children's beauty treaments. One mom estimated she's shelled out over $80,000 on her daughter and son's manicures, facials and pedicures, remarking, "They love it. They can't go without it. I feel we're in a time now where beauty is everything." She even examines her daughter's nails before she goes off to school.

here is a short 2 minute video of the segment...

she certaintly isn't doing her kids a favor. she isn't teaching them to work hard...instead she is teaching them that mommy will take care of you. mommy will probably still be spending money on them like that when they're 30.

That is freaking insane! $80,000?! Last year me n my hubby made less than $15k and she can spend 80 grand on beauty treatments for her kids!? She is so falling into the superficial net of society. What is she going to do when they don't have the money to afford all their kids' "beauty treatments"?

I use body wash and a wash cloth to give my daugher a bath. I use shampoo, conditioner, and sometimes detangler on her hair, and I trim her nails and wash her face and ears. Each time she gets a bath, I tell her what all needs washed and why. I don't want her to think she has to spend outrageous amounts of money on herself just to look pretty. I tell her that looks can be taken away or disappear with time, they're not everything. Yes, she should take care of herself and care about her appearance, but that's not the most important thing.

That woman is just teaching her kids that spending money equals beauty. That's not true. There are all kinds of beauty, not just one. Besides, if one of her kids contracts a vicious fungus from getting manis and pedis and ends up losing a finger or a toe, what is she going to do? She's probably gonna freak out. somebody needs to talk some sense into her.

What is she gonna say or do when her kids get older and decide to not get all the treatments anymore? Is she going to think less of them because they aren't "maintaining" the beauty she helped them to achieve? What if they can't afford it as they get older? Is she going to foot the bill for her 20-something kids so they can continue their regimen? I don't think she thought this thinkg thru.

All I could think about was 'WHAT A WASTE OF FREAKING MONEY!' All the things that could be done with that money!! My husband and I pay $100 a month for 2 sponsor kids in Ethiopia. $80 000 would support *quickly does math on computer calculator* 1600 kids for one month!!!!! Or support 133 kids for a whole year!! Arrrghh!! *Tears hair out*

i feel sick hearing this...all my school loans could be paid off with that kind of money!

i don't believe in indulging your children all the time..I believe in teaching them the value of hard work. If you want manis and pedis all the time...then get your own job!

If my son doesn't stop being a sneaky little bugger and finding/stealing/hoarding MY make-up I will probably end up spending this amount of money to replace everything!! LOL

In all seriousness though, this is absurd! God forbid you put the money aside for university...a car...travel, or a house for them to start a family?

Wow, I like to get my mani/pedi done regularly. But I don't spend $80,000 on it! I spend maybe a few hundred a year. My hunny is a nurse practitioner and is ok with me indulging, he'll throw in a massage sometimes too....but if I spend that much money, he'd be buying me a nice coffin :) haha
This woman needs some parenting classes. Her children will never know about anything that is not superficial, and will not have anything worthwhile to offer the world.

Wow, that's pretty disgusting. I love me a mani and pedi on occasion too but I could never justify spending the equivalent of a year's worth of middle class wages on them. I go once before summer and once at the end to remove the season's worth of grit.

llllloooooolllll this lady is so ridiculous!!! if i had 80,000 the last thing i would think to spend it on is my little girls NAILS... are u kidding me?? lol That's a nice new vehicle paid in full, bills taken care of for the next 6 months, and a nice chunk of the house paid off. This is also coming from a lady who you could definately tell has had some major facial work done though, so I'm sure by 21 her daughter will look like a different person from all the botox and whatnot mommy will get her. That's so funny "my daughter isn't allowed to leave the house if her nails are chipped" ... my nails are ALWAYS chipped lol... they're never all the same length, I put polish on every couple months and pretty much let it come off on its own If you have that much time to devote to your nails.... come clean my house??? Obviously you need to think about something better to devote your time (and money) to.

if i had 80,000 dollars i would not spend it on that..when i am done school for what my ultimate goal is(Nurse Practioner) and i am making that or better...i still won't be spending 80,000 on beauty treatments...my daughter would get a manicure and pedicure set for xmas and she can have a go in her bedroom til her heart is content..my son gets a hair cut and a good brush..nail clippers and a file and some noxema for his pimples...and thats about all i can commit to....that is ridiculous and setting them up for failure....smh..it's a recession...lets act like it...
