Sooooooo......for those of you that vaccinate your kids, do you vaccinate your animals? And how about those of you that DON'T vaccinate your children, are your pets at least protected?

If you posted an article from your side that was recently published, (recent only because if it's old, I've probably already read it) I would read it because I seek truth, not validation for my own opinion.

Okay Reane and I can find just as many for my side as well. Your article honestly means nothing.

I left this conversation awhile ago but I stumbled across this article today and thought it should be shared. If you're objective is to learn and do what's best for your child (even if that means you're being proven wrong!) I HIGHLY suggest you read this article.

We don't vaccinate our child. It's easy to keep her home when illness is going around. For her, the risk of the vaccines outweighs the benefits of vaccines. Also a lot of the illnesses these days are mild and easy to treat.

We do vaccinate our animals because there's no way to avoid them walking in areas likely to have illnesses and diseases. It's the nature of animals needing to go outside to poop and walk in each other's toilet. For them, the risk of not vaccinating is greater.

We don't have any pets, but DH and I don't vaccinate our 15 month old and most likely never will given all the research we've done :)

@Reane Seavor - Major props for everything you've said! :)

I have my eldest daughter vaccinated til she was one, nothing else after that, because it was like that in Germany 11 years ago, then my second daughter only til 6 months because we went to work abroad and I forgot! ( bad mum) then my youngest ( son) has had all his vaccines, and he s the only one of the family who s always ill,I just received some more vaccines letters,3 vaccines which contain 4 products in each! This is crazy and I'm not planing on doing them! All that rubbish injected in my baby! No way!

And for my pets it wasn't a choice my dogs are vaccinated against rabies because I have to for traveling countries, and my ponies are vaccinated against flu because the livery yard want it that way, otherwise they wouldn't be vaccinated either! My 16 years old dog never been vaccinated and is perfectly healthy...the debate continue ( thanks Reane this confirm my first thoughts) x

Cause legally, your cat needs to be up to date on rabies if nothing else.

Minna, also some vets offer a 3 year vaccination for rabies (and distemper at least in dogs). Ask about it. That way there is a longer duration between legal vaccinations. Totally worth it IMO.

Blood work is a good idea. They still get checkups. New cats are vetted[ fixed if needed, tested and vaccinated] and quarantined, even if the shelter vet gave an all clear. thanks Minna

@ REANE "She was born with a healthy immune system the way human beings have for thousands of years. She has never had a cold, ear infection, or anything wrong with her at all. Children who are not vaccinated can go 10 years without catching a cold."

Polio is MUCH different than a cold....so are measles, and mumps. Pertussis also is much more severe. All of these are life threatening that we can vaccinate against. A cold is just a nuisance (unless you have an auto immune disease, then it can be fatal). Totally different categories of illness. The reason your kids are not getting sick currently? Herd immunity, so thank all your fellow people in your community for vaccinating against horrible diseases so people like you reap the benefits and say that vaccinations are evil. Love it.

Yes they can create sarcomas, but it is vital for your cat to be up to date on vaccinations, especially if you plan on getting a new cat in the house. If you feel compelled to withhold vaccinations, at least get a blood titer to see if they are still active.

Hey, vaccinate your kids, but I stop vaccinating my cats when they're about 12. Most cats have enough immunity for everything by then. Vets usually don't bring up the fact that your pet doesn't need anymore, and the shots can cause tumors and be hard on elderly cats kidneys. Not sure about dogs,,,,,,,,,the rabies is required. Minna

Well someone who thinks that humans have the right to make a PLANT that has healing properties proven to cure people of all their ailments from depression to cancer illegal (meanwhile injecting KNOWN carcinogens into their children) and put in the same category as harmful substances such as heroin and cocaine isn't worth my time!!! & how do you know I don't have a MEDICAL marijuana license?? There given in 14 states now because a large population of Americans sees the benefits of using PLANTS over pharmaceuticals!

And quite honestly anyone that uses illegal drugs isn't worth my time and honestly imo shouldn't be any where near children.

I really hope you're not calling me ingnorant! I've done TONS of research, and I (like many mothers) do not feel that vaccines are safe. I know everything that you replied and all of the things you said are the EXACT reasons why I do not want my child vaccinated. LOL. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are to yours. I know many many many unvaccinated kids who NEVER get sick. & yes tthere is no vaccine for a cold BUT an unvaccinated child has a stronger immune system and is more likely to fight it off before any symptoms appear. Im going to end this debate here because anyone who resorts to name calling in a intellectual debate is not worth my time

Ignorance abounds..... I think someone needs to lay off the dope a little.

My nephews (5, 3, and 1) aren't vaccinated. They get sick MUCH more often than my vaccinated kids (4-11 years old)... and get it worse too. Of course, there is no vaccination for the cold and ANYONE can get one at ANY time.....

My friend's baby is 6 months old and has spent more of his life in the hospital than out of it and it all started with whooping cough... when he was too young to be vaccinated.

@Reane you really need to do your research better:

Aluminum salts To help stimulate the body’s response to the antigens, Formaldehyde To kill viruses or inactivate toxins during the manufacturing process which isn't actually in the vaccine,

Also in regards to the fetal cells and Monkey cells:

In order to develop the weakened viral strain, there must be a medium or “cell culture” to grow it in. The virus invades the culture cells, feeds off the cell, matures, and multiplies. The cell cultures are a single type of cell that multiplies itself in a predictable fashion and can be sustained in a laboratory setting for years, even decades. These long-lasting cell cultures are called “cell lines.” The original cells that start these cell lines have been taken from a wide variety of sources, from monkey embryo and kidney cells, to chicken and rabbit embryos, and tragically, from aborted human babies. The issue of concern is that many common vaccines were developed using cell lines that originally were cells taken from electively aborted babies. The vaccines themselves do not contain fetal cells,

Also if you are a pet owner and you have a dog you would have no choice but to vaccinate. You can NOT own a dog in virtually any town/or city now and not have the rabies vaccine as they must be registered w/your town. If you do not you are fined daily and can eventually lose your dog as they will seize your pet.

My daughter is NOT and will NEVER be vaccinated. Have you ladies read one of the ingredients lists? Formaldehyde, Aluminum, Aborted Fetus Cells, Monkey Kidneys, and the list goes on and on. I don't want those things intentionally injected into my baby. She was born with a healthy immune system the way human beings have for thousands of years. She has never had a cold, ear infection, or anything wrong with her at all. Children who are not vaccinated can go 10 years without catching a cold. Our immune systems are very intricate and work very well at fighting off diseases. That's why we have survived as a species. Unless you live in an area like South Africa where disease is everywhere, sanitation is low, and clean water is scarce, there is no reason to get this poison. Oh, and I dont have any pets but if I did, they would be vaccine free as well!

all of my children are fully vaccinated, and i will be ensuring they all receive the HPV vaccine as well - i feel that one is of great importance being a cervical cancer survivor. if there is any way to ensure i can reduce the risks for my girls and help my sons ensure they dont pass on a germ which can cause it in young ladies then i will (yes its coming out for boys too!), not to mention that they are less susceptible to the main strands of genital warts, which is incurable and can be contracted so easily (condoms and birth control cant protect you from that one!) you can find more info about it here http://www.health.gov.au/internet/immuni... - the american website has even more info than this one though.

When i have had pets they too are vaccinated.

When I could afford it my dog was fully vaccinated. Sadly vet visits and therefore vaccines have been cut from our budget. I know that's terrible. My kids well visits and vaccines are free. If we had to pay it might be a while before my kids were fully vaccinated.

YES! Specifically ask for it. They will still need to do a yearly heartworm test, and fecal examinations. The 3 year vaccinations cost a little more than the yearly, but you would be spending more money every year for them accumulated.

That's how often we do it, too. Every 3 years. I am not sure if it is called the "three year vaccination", since they call us every year to come and get them done but I tell them, not this time. ;)

Should I be specifically asking them for the "three year vaccine"?

We vaccinate our dog but we do not do it as often as they want us too. She is an inside dog and only out when we walk her daily, on a leash.

Vaccinations are so very important. We do not take them lightly, for human or animal. ;)

We vaccinate our daughter with all the vaccines on the timeline but not the seasonal ones like flu etc. Our cat has renal failure so we avoid doing anything that could make him sicker.

Well Brittany, you have not been fully informed about feline leukimia then. I am glad that your cat has had it at least once though. Feline leukimia can effect indoor and out door cats. It is passed through bodily fluids. Even if your cat is fully an indoor cat, if an infected cat walks up to your door, or winow that is open, and your cat is there....it can be infected. If you bring a new cat into your home that has it, your cat can be infected. Anyhow, just saying it is highly contagious, and not something to overlook. I appreciate that you vaccinate period.

The feline leuk "gun" can be very scary for cats. It is the noise that freaks them out more than anything. It is very loud, and certainly they can feel it, but should not cause any more pain than a shot. It is suppose to actually hurt less. If only they had silencers on those buggers LOL. Many vets still carry the injectable kind, especially because kittens need that kind. Unless they have changed the formula since the last time I worked at a vet, which could certainly be true.

I vaccinate my kids for everything but the flu and HPV. For those two it comes down to testing and research.

My cat is vaccinated. I was a bit horrified on the method for the feline Leukemia shot, so one cat we had only got it once. We also found out after that she didn't need it anyway since she was a leash only cat.

With the Leukemia shot they used a compressed air gun like injector that shot 5 needles into the poor things thigh and scared her half to death, let alone hurt her very badly. It took me 20 minutes to calm her down. I have no problems with the vaccine itself, but that was just a mean way to deliver it.
