I don't remember if this came up here before, but I saw it in another community.

Do you use the public changing tables or do you change your babies some where else? Do you take any precautions before laying your baby down like wiping it off or putting down a mat?

I grab thiose disposable change mats for the baby bag, they can be chucked after use and are big enough to cover everything so baby doesnt have to touch the public mats etc at all

I use them frequently, it's rather impossible to change a baby on the backseat of the suv in the middle of a canadian winter.

We also put down a reciving blanket and change pad, wiping hands after using. Our malls all have great mom rooms, and instead of using the change table i just use the counter, it's easier that way with a 25lbs kid

I try rto avoid feeding or changing while out and about anyway, I live about 5 minutes from the shopping centre and only nip down there for 1 thing if the kids have to come.

I wipe it down with a wipe. Here they have pull out paper stuff to put on it and then you throw it away.

Those things are gross. There are more germs on them than the bathroom floor. Most of the ones I have seen have poop and/or puke on them somewhere. I used to just use a changing mat on the floor (gross, too I guess) when I HAD to change their diapers in public.

I either change my son in the car or put down a mat. Where I live people are disgusting when it comes to diapers. I mean they just fuckin' throw them out in the parking lot for cars to run over or people to walk on. I've even found them shoved behind food on the shelves in the grocery store. It's nasty and rude.

I hate people. >:P

I use them, often with a blanket underneath. But I do that changing my daughter anywhere but on her own changing table.

There are some places where I don't use it. Mainly ones where the bathrooms look really dirty. I'd rather have her sit in it until we can get to the car. Another place is at the pool. There is only one changing table (for some reason) in the woman's locker room. Since my child is a bit older I like to keep the table open for the moms with really little ones.

wipe and baby mat... but the mall I frequent has a great Mommy room and a lady who washes the room quite often. I think some can be super sketchy though when I travel we always stop at the same rest stop and I hate using the toilets there so I can't imagine the change table

Yes I use them often and just lay my baby mat on top of it I can't change my baby in the car, we don't have room as I have 4 car seats in my car.

I used one on occasion. I'd wipe it down and lay some paper towels on it for my son to lay on... and then wipe it down again when he was off. Never for a wet diaper... only a poop emergency. Most of the time I was able to change him in the front seat of my van, but there were a few occasions where waiting for that wasn't practical.

I never used a public changing table. Most times if we were out and about I would change our son in the car. Once I used my changing mat on the counter top in the restroom but other than that we changed our son in the car. Public restrooms are just gross for the most part, so when I can avoid them I do.

I use them. I just wipe it down with a wet wipe first and then put a change pad on top.

There'd be no room in my car to change him, what with all the crap I have in there. Besides...I can't imagine hauling him out in the pouring rain or in the snow to change his bum, if we could do it inside.

We have parent rooms in all the shopping centers where I live and they are cleaned reg throughout the day. I do use them, I still put a mat down and make sure I wipe the bench and my daughters hands after we have used it. It doesnt worry me really, if there isnt one or I think there too dirty I'll just wait til were back at the car and change her there. I had to do that today as we were about to go into the hair dressers and she did a poo and the car was the only place!!! My pram can also be a change spot and I've done that

I generally give them a quick once over with a baby wipe. I don't mind using them (depending on the model, some I HATE) but I generally try to wait until we get home. If it's just a little wet, I'll wait. Obviously if the diaper is really wet, or dirty, it gets changed asap.
Since my son is in pull ups (more for convenience than potty training XD) we generally change him standing up anyways, but I still give the changing tables a once over with a baby wipe.

I use them if I have to. I line them with the paper towels (for drying hands) or wipe them with a wet wipe.

I second Sara, that is exactly what we do.

I don't use them. I think they're icky. I change my daughter in the car before going in some where and then change her when we get back to the car if needed. If I absolutely (like we have a giant code mustard---for the EBF baby) have to use one then I wipe it with a sanitizing wipe then put down the mat. When my first got big enough to stand well I started changing her standing up.
