I thought it was a stupid decision when I heard about it. I am glad the girl won and I wouldn't run from that town if I were her, I would stand up for what I believe in. Funny, my granddaughter didn't have a boy friend or even a male friend that she wanted to go to the prom with so she invited her best female friend, not a lesbian thing but they went together so that the tickets were actually cheaper in the long run. 2 tickets were $50 and 1 ticket was $30 so now next yr they have plans on doing the same thing because my granddaughter paid for the tickets this yr and so next yr her friend is paying. I said oh well, whatever works for them. Now even that prob wouldn't have been allowed in that school because it wasn't the "normal" thing to do. Who can say anymore what "normal" is. Girls have always danced together so what is the big deal and my opinion is, who r we to judge. I don't know if that town is suppose to b an extremely religious town or what, but if they r they better read their bible a little better because the last count I had it said " Judge not, lest ye be judged" and " Let he without sin cast the first stone" I am sure that none of them would be able to cast stones. I am a christian and a strong believer but even at that I would never be able to cast a stone because even the strongest christian is not without sin. Only God can judge this young lady if she is wrong. I do not know if she is or not, I really do not have an opinion about whether it is right or wrong to be lesbian or homosexual, I just know that if one of my children had been, I would have accepted them for who they were because I love my children. I hope this young lady has her parents support.

There were probably already issues of people hating her since it was her "fault" that the prom was canceled in the first place. One of the main reasons why I think it was wrong of the school to do that. They turned all of her peers against her.

Laura, the district also paid court costs. =)

Still, if I were her, I'd move far far away. There will always be hard feelings towards her in that town.

Woo Hoo!!! I hope she didn't have to pay a lawyer...cause that would've cost more than $35 000

Yes, I agree. I hope the school is happy with their stupid decision.

I'm so glad she won the case. Some places in this world are so discriminative...they need to realise it's not the stone ages anymore! Over here in the UK people don't generally aren't allowed to take people to proms, unless they are also in the same school year at the same school. But then again over here we have equality laws too so that sort of thing couldn't happen anyways.
