Indoor Allergy Remedies

My son has asthma-like issues with wheezing, coughing, sneezing, itcy/red/watery eyes and appears to be allergic to dust, pollen, mold and pet dander. We don't have any pets and vacuum with a hepa-filter vacuum. However, the doctor has put him on Zyrtec and Nasonex and he's been coughing for two months with no relief even with the allergy meds. I thought he might have asthma or large adonoids, but the doctor doesn't think he has those issues. In addition, he wakes up twice during the night coughing or waking up crying and lightly snores at bedtime and naps. Does anyone have any suggestions of natural ways to help with allergies? I am truly at a loss. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thank you for the great info., Candace. I switched to 7th Generation, but haven't gotten rid of fabric softener as our water is pretty hard. I will do that though. I also am switching over my cleaning products...I use one from Trader Joe's and some 7th Generation products too. I'll have to look into the Norwex mattress cover. Thanks for that tip. I use a special tea tree oil dust mite repellant cleaner on our linens, but it's super expensive and only lasts for 4-6 washes. I am glad this works well for your daughter. It's tough dealing with allergies. Thanks again.

Hi I just joined this group,
I was wondering if you have tried eliminating the chemicals in your home and tried using plant based natural products? As well look at the laundry detergents you are using, switch to a natural mild detergent and most importantly don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets. This may help your sons allergies and asthma.
Believe it or not our homes tend to be more polluted then the outside.
I do not use any chemicals in my home as well I use a norwex mattress cleaner on a regular bases to prevent dust mites etc.. It works well for us and my daughter sleeps and breaths normally.
