My PDD NOS child plays with her stool

My daughter is 2 and has PDD NOS. We deal with sensory issues. Does anybody else deal with there child putting there hand in there diaper and pull out there stool and play with it,rub it on walls or in there cribs or worse put it in there mouths? I don't know what to do. We monitore her diapers more at night and change her diaper more often. Its hard to yell at her because I know she doesn't know what she is doing. I was told it was a sensory issue. I would appricate any help on this matter. Thank You

Thank You Kris. My OT Theripst suggested at night to put her in zipped up pj with the feet and to cut the feet off and put the pj on backwards and that has hepled alot at night. I am still having problems during the day but I will definatly try a leatard.I never even thought about that. Thank You. She goes through spurts were she does it every day then she wont do it for a couple days.She does it when ever my back is turned.Even for just a spli second.It is very frustrating because I know she does not understand what she is doing is gross.

I'm a little late in on this, but yes I have a daughter who does that. She is 3 now and it's started to taper off a bit but at it's height she was doing it once, twice a day. I don't think she ever got the concept of why we think it's disgusting. I've noticed that she does it mainly when she's feeling angry or stressed about something, and so now on those days I put a leotard on her if I can't watch her all the time. I know it doesn't really solve the problem, it just keeps her from reaching in there. It's happening less and less and I'm hoping it's a behavior she'll grow out of. I feel your pain though, I really do. Hang in there!

I agree that you don't want to yell because she doesn't know better, but you do need to take measures to start redirecting this negative behavior as much s possible. Make sure to tell her no, that it is yucky, that mommy and daddy do not like it, that it can make her tummy hurt if she eats it, etc. Try to find something that she can play with in place of it, maybe play dough or putty. I think there are markers or something that she can use during bath time to draw on the tub walls, or maybe try finger paint. Hopefully she will start showing interest in potty training, which may help too. It's sounds like you're monitoring her closely, which helps too.
