Best PDX area hospital for giving birth

Just gave birth at OHSU, it was great. Nurses and staff were wonderful and food was excellent! It was kind of a hike to get up there from Beaverton, especially during labor, but worth it!

I had both my boys at Meridian Park and LOVED it!!! Like Carrie, I would never go anywhere else! We have switched to Providence insurance and I specifically called to make sure that I could still deliver at Meridian Park when we decide to have #3. Nurses, rooms, food, EVERYTHING was AMAZING!!! Can't go wrong. They are also usually not crowded so you get amazing care! They also have a fabulous Baby and Me class after you leave the hospital. I highly recommend it!

I had both of my girls at LMP. AMAZING! I would never go anywhere else.

My daughter was born in Providence Portland, just off of Glisan. I loved it! They let my husband stay all three nights with me. I didn't have to move from one room to another. It was all private with a bathroom and shower. They also have a jacuzzi tub to help along with labor. My labor was too quick, so I wasn't able to use it. They also let me order food for my husband, technically I wasn't supposed to, but the nurses there told me that it would be alright. Plus Loie, I think she's a head nurse there, is the nicest lady ever!

I had my baby at St.Vs. I must have been lucky since the head nurse was my best friend's mother-in-law and our family friend. Our doctor was wonderful and were granted nice private and comfortable room for our labor and later a different one for recovery that had a small bed and bench for hubby and family to take turns spending the night. Everyone one was helpful and very nice. Maybe knowing someone made the difference.

I do think touring the hospital that you want to give birth in is important. But more importantly is finding the right doctor and staff to provide you with the care you will need during your delivery. You may need to take that into consideration. Good luck. Don't forget the fabulous alternatives to a hospital. This city has an incredible network of midwives and free standing birth centers.

I went to St. Vincent's in Portland. I had a good experience...the doctor that delivered my baby was kind of rude but it was a guy so maybe thats why? Everything else was great though and I plan on having my next one there as well....unless I move out of state of course.

Willamette Falls Hospital in Oregon City (I believe the are a part of Providence now). I loved it there it didn't seem like a hospital, it was small and comfortable I stayed in one room the entire time. My nurses and my midwives were all amazing! If I have another there is no question about where I am going! Good Luck!

Providence Newberg...definenately! Nurses are great...Jan for days; Susan for nights. I had other nurses too but these 2 were a cut above the rest. You even get a dinner to take home with you afterwards. The Women's Healthcare Associates has a great team...Dr Emmons and Jody Lindwall (midwife) were my favorites there and their phone number is 503.538.2698. Good Luck with your decision.

my best friend and i both gave birth at klamath falls in oregon city. excellent!! same room from the point u check in till u leave and they are friendly and responsive. not sure what kind of insurance they are under though.

I gave birth to my youngest Providence Newberg. The BEST hospital. There are jacuzzi tubs in every room, soft lighting, TV, CD player, good food (omlettes, pasta, sandwiches, etc.) They keep you in the same room the whole time too. I loved all my nurses, and Jamie the CNA who gave me the epidural was awesome too. The only thing that made me nervous was that if my doctor wasn't on call, then a stranger was going to deliver my baby. Fortunately, my doctor happened to be on call that day, so he delivered him.

The food was unbelievable for a hospital. It all tasted very normal, just like something you would order at a diner. Quite different than the vegetarian "cuisine" at Portland Adventist where I had my oldest.

Forgot to say they have free WiFi too, so if you have a laptop, you will be able to upload pics to FB as they happen! My family was so excited to see pics right after he was born.



The nurses there were all very knowlegable with nursing too. They would help me get the baby latched on and help me keep him awake, etc. while he was trying to nurse.

I had my first at Providence Portland and it was wonderful. I was lucky to get a very large room with a huge tub (not jacuzzi, but just as big) which I spent most of my labor in. You stay in the same room for labor, delivery & recovery. They also had a pretty nice Baby #2 was at St. Vincents, which I would agree was not the best. I had a total of FIVE different rooms while I was there. First triage with no privacy, then labor room. I had to have a c-section and then another room for recovery with no privacy. Back to labor room to wait for the room I would stay in to open up.

My sister had hers in Meridian Park and that was pretty much the same as Providence Portland, but newer and a little nicer.

I had my son at Providence Portland I did have a nice sized room. I had to go down the hall to use the Jacuzzi which I did most of my labor in he was born 10 mins after I got out! You can go and tour the ones you are thinking about that might help you make a choice. : )

I had all 4 of mine at Tualatin Legacy Meridian Park Hospital. Loved the nurses they were very attentive and caring. Large rooms and had an bench seat so my Mom could stay the night with me and take some of the night shift. I stayed in the same room the whole time. Many options were given to me. They asked if I wanted to have the kids with me at night or if I wanted to have them in the nursery (my third was colicky). They gave me the option to allow them to give my babies binkies or not. The food was good. When there was an emergency they called in more nurses right away and my baby turned out fine. After leaving the hospital the nurses called me at home and they had a mommy and baby group led by a nurse once a week which is very helpful when questions arise. Best of Luck

I love Providence Milwaukie.  The room is private and you stay there until you and baby are released from the hospital.  Also, the nurses are great.

I went to Adventist medical just off of I-205. The nurses there were awesome and you get one room the whole time... the room you check into is the room you labor, birth & recover in!! We really loved it there :)
