We moved here at the end of May so I could get my master's. I had one babysitter that didn't work out (caused my daughter to have nightmares and owies). Right now, I am lucky because my partner's schedule and mine work perfectly that we don't need any help. However, in a month, I'm going to need help one day a week for half a day and possibly a here-n-there. Any suggestions? I'm scared to try another "babysitter" but I think that's my only choice since most daycares want a child to attend more than one day a week.

I've noticed most daycares here require your child attend at least 3 days a week, but it sounds like that would be a waste of money. If you change your mind about trying another babysitter, I'm available. I have a 5 year old daughter and a 17 month old daughter, and I'm a stay at home mom. So I could be as "on call" as you need me to be.

Care.com and Sitter City is where a bunch of my friends have reasonably priced nannies ... how old is your kiddo? I'm looking for some P/T work as a caregiver and may be able to help depending on your needs :)

Have you tried your local community centers? They have great programs that may work out for your schedule and are reasonably priced. Another idea is looking at nanny.com which matches you with a nanny/babysister in your area that you interview and has also gone though background checks by nanny.com itself. I have personally done both and have had great experiences. Hope those ideas work out. Good Luck.

sad experience to have gone through for you and your family, my heart goes out to you. here's a couple off the bat i just looked up. i visited this one last easter, it looked nice, but not for babies. so depending on how old your daughter is this might be an option for you. http://www.wevillage.com/ it's right in NW portland. then a pdf that might be able to give you some other places you can look into http://www.icse-conferences.org/2003/tra... and i'll pray a prayer for you and yours to find the best place...
