Hi everyone I am a little concerned now as I had pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome with my first pregnancy. I am now 32 weeks with my 2nd child & I am getting a little worried as I am getting a few of the same symptoms, do any of you know the chances of it re-occuring? Please help me as I can't bare to go through this again. Please & thanks xxxxxxxx

Hi they used to say if you got pre-eclampsia with one pregnancy you wouldn't with your next...Not true I had it with all 4 the symptoms started earlier with each pregnancy & worse than the one b4...good luck hope all goes well

Thanks alot Stephanie took a trip to the maternity ward last night as I was getting the abdomen pains, the blurred vision and the severe headaches. They monitored the baby and did bloods all of which were fine but I'm still a little concerned as I went roughly about this time with my first pregnancy and they said everything was fine then 2/3 weeks later I ended up delivering because it was so bad we both could have died, luckily we didn't so I count my blessings. Thanks again, it's a little reassuring to see what other mums that have gone through the same thing think about it all.

I got pre-eclampsia both times but it wasn't as bad the second time happend later in the pregnancy and I didn't get the HELLP so don't worry more than likely if you do get it aagain you will be just fine and you baby will be too. I am sure that you will be just fine just try to relax and keep up oin your blood pressures and watch for signs and go to the hospital if you feel the need. Don't ever be afraid to call the Dr. if you have a concern feel free to message me any time

Thanks ladies. I have a rountine ante-natal tomorrow so I will discuss my worries to the midwife, hopefully she takes them seriously as with my first I had all the tell-tale symptoms but no high BP or protein in my urine so nothing was done for atleast 2 weeks then I deteriorated pretty fast and nearly died. Luckily I kept pestering them.

I had HELLP during my pregnancy with my autistic son and again with the pregnancy of my twins that I could not carry to term. I showed signs both times, much earlier than HELLP usually appears.

The chances of HELLP occuring in later pregnancies is about 30 % if i remember correctly. If you think you are possibly having symptoms similar to what you had with you 1st child, make sure you tell your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor should be watching you more closely then normal anyway.
