Thanks for all of the advice!! Lifetouch is definitely a nice company to work for. The Christmas season has been awful. The next few weeks can't go by fast enough!! I really am looking forward to doing my own thing! I have thought alot about marketing. I plan on doing a website at some point and putting my name in the yellow pages. Also, I have seen photographers rent sign space in malls.

Hi Beatriz, I think just taking pictures here and there for a little bit will get you going in the right direction. Get a good feel for it, make a little cash and if it really starts to pick up then start looking into opening up a business account, get a tax id number, get yourself incorporated. Take baby steps and pick up some books on marketing and how to start your business, that is one area I still struggle with...marketing, but live and learn is what I live by. Good luck with everything!!!

Oh my goodness Jennifer! My first photography job was as a school, spors and prom photographer for LifeTouch! :) I know I had a great manager, but he went out of his way to teach me all I was willing to learn!

That will be an awesome start for you! :)

I am currently working for Lifetouch photography. I basically take portraits of infants through adults. I love it so much! After Christmas, I am looking into taking classes from New York Institute of Photography. Does anyone know about them?? I hope to start a business within the next couple of years to include weddings and other functions!

Hello Melissa, I went to school for graphic design and with my graphic design job of 8 years I was also shooting within the company too. Someone asked me if I could shoot their wedding and that' how it all started.
I had Ava almost two years ago and during my maternity leave, I coundn't leave my daughter to got back to work, so I took the plung and started my business.

I shot mostly weddings and some family. I feel very blesses as well and i can't believe I am doing something I love!!!

I've been told I have a good eye for photography so I started taking photos of my friend's children at the park for fun. They have suggested I do it for a living but I have no idea how to start a photography business. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm in PA, about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia. I do studio portraits of babies and children and I'm in my 3rd year of business now.

Hi Christina

I do baby and Children photography as well as fine art work. Just started as a business and have had a few nibbles in response to my marketing strategies but no bites yet other than from a few friends and family. I sell my prints on Etsy at TMCPhoto.etsy.com
How about you?
