Hi! LeeAnn Watson here, and I started my buisness August 2008 and it took off with leaps and bounds! Now I feel like I in a rut and very discouraged. I have a full time job and a 17 month old daughter, so I do my photography part time. Which I devote 3 hrs. a night to study and research and creativity for my buisness and I am getting no where. I have a web-site and a blog. I am getting no hits from my blog at all. What do I do? How do I get people to follow my blog? I use photobiz.com for my web-hoster, but can't afford the monthly cost anymore. So should I ditch the web-site and stick with the blog? Or instead of previewing the proofs online should I go to the clients house and show the proofs a week after the shoot and set a time frame that they have to order. The reason for that question is that I have a very long turn around time from when I post pics to when I receive their orders. Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I put online proofs up, and make an appointment with clients. This means partners who might not be able to make the appointment still can have a say on the decision making process, and I encourage clients to forward the link to family and friends, which leads to add on sales. But you do have to persist on the client making their sale, you cant rely on them to get back to you.

Before i opened my studio, i had a blog, and a paid for google ad. It worked pretty well for me, actually I made more money in my pocket from that than my newly(6 months) opened studio.

Tell everyone you are a photographer...you will be surprised where work comes from.

Keep your chin up, keep following the dream, theres heaps of us in the same boat

Oops, I forgot use tags and links to other sites when possible. It will help when people are using search engines. Link to other blogs. I 'll bump a post I started a few weeks ago talking about linking to other blogs.

give your clients a sneak peek of your favorites from their session the same night if possible. It will increase your raffice like crazy because they will share the link with friends and family. I'm not sure you should get rid of your site. The internet is a powerful tool and if your blog isn't getting much traffic, it is important. Post tips and tricks for your clients to take better photos. Blog often to keep people coming back. I have had a lot going on since the begining of the year, however I usually try to blog, at least every other day. Don't on line proof, your sales will suffer and orders will be slow to come in. At the photo session set a date for the ordering session for 2 weeks out. It give you a dead line and you don't have to conact your client again to try to another appointment.

What is your blog address? Maybe I can take a look and let you know if I see anything I would change/update.

Good Luck!
