I'm so glad that my kids are not of school age. I would have been outraged if my kids had seen this in school.

I agree with some of what was said in this video. It's good to pledge to better yourself and to try to better your surroundings, but they took this video and made it into political propaganda. We do not pledge to serve the President, when a President is sworn into office, they pledge to serve the people of the US.

Alot of what they suggested in the video I would hope we're already doing everyday, but the last portion of the video is disturbing. It wouldn't matter how much I liked the president (any president), I would never pledge to serve them. We elect them into office to serve us, to represent the people.

Did I think much of a man who cheated on his wife compulsively and repeatedly with no remorse? Uh, no. And he asked what we can do for our country....nothing wrong with that at all. When we are asked to do for our PRESIDENT....that's wherein the trouble lies. He comes from the people and returns to the people, he's not God, and I pledge NOTHING to him and it's really insulting to expect otherwise.

Dang...those singing kids are just creepy....

Sounded a lot like "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" (of course, you folks didn't think much of him either did you?)...They seemed to be offering suggestions about what many of us CAN do every day for our country and our world. Our children are behaving outrageously because of the things celebrities say and do...I don't think children should be learning ANY of their values from this group, but I'd rather have them learn good/positive ones then to learn that it's ok to dress like a tramp, drink and drive, shout bigotry at cops, sleep with 20 different people a year...etc...Our children (not my 18 month old yet) are paying attention to these people whether we like it or not...

Quoting Maleasha:

If we're trying to end slavery, then why are the celebrities in this video trying to get us to serve the president? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Ah, I'm not sure I'm able to respond to that without being flagged.

Nobody should SERVE their president. He works for US, it isn't the other way around. The fact that this is being showed in a public school is terrible. You wanna bow at the feet and serve the prez...knock your socks off. But don't try to brainwash our kids into being a footsoldier to the chosen one. Again...if there had been a film about serving President Bush, I don't think this would be okay, nor would the whole Sept. 8th thing.

I love how there are a few threads out there about the Republicans being a cult...what is more cultish than that??? Oh! I know!!! Hang on...

Here it is!!!

Slavery was abolished 200 years ago, why keep bringing it up. I will admit, that there still are people out there that are racist. We can't change how everyone feels. We can try to help people see past color, but if we push it, it can sometimes only make things worse.

I for one am against the stem cell research, unless they use adult cells. We have been there and done that with that topic. So if they just left the political stuff out, and the stem cell stuff, it would have been better.

The majority of Americans voted Obama into office to serve us, not for us to be serving him. First we need to better ourselves and our families and them we can think about what we can do for others.

The message, without the last portion and maybe one or two of the comments, was an excellent message. It needs to be taught to our kids, but in a different way and without the politics.

Pledging to be a servent to our president and all of man kind isn't something to ge into a huff about in my opinion, I understand where some of you think it went too far and I can agree with that. I think leaving the end off would have reached more people, now I think people will spend more time complaining about it rather than listening to what an awesome message it was.

If they had left the political propaganda out of the video, I think it would be outstanding to show this to students. We all need encouragement to pledge to better ourselves, help others, volunteer, and to start conserving energy, but this was not the way to do that.

Yes, I agree. Most of it I do agree with too. We should try to be more giving and do more service. The problem is that we don't pledge to the President. The sad thing is they use something good, and turn it into something bad. Imagine if Bush made a video and wanted us to pledge our time and energy to him and the war.
