Okay women, who are your favorite musicians and bands? Are you into jazz, blues, death metal? And why do you think you're drawn to a specific kind of music?

Myself, I am quite eclectic in my musical tastes. I love Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joni Mitchell, Fairport Convention, Sandi Denny, Mumford & Sons, Bob Dylan etc. I like bluegrass as well because I'm an Ohioan hillbilly:)

I thought Justin Beiber's "Baby" song was being sung by a girl... LOL. I like it though, I think hearing it w/o knowing who was singing helped.

How about Lady Gaga? It's weird because I generally don't like her stuff the first time I hear it, but then it grows on me. I think she's good at making statements in songs, but in her videos she often pushes the envelope too much for my taste.

What is "hippy music?" Would that be music from the late 60's. Or the folk music by the Mama's and Papa's and Bob Dylan and the like?

I haven't even listened to Bieber. My favorite Bowie album (oops, I'm dating myself) is Low. I love that album. Also his Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars...I occasionally enjoy the Cocteau Twins & The Talking Heads. Queen is epic. We also do copious amounts of Rush in our household. My oldest, Ben, can play the bass on every Led Zeppelin & Rush song. Good thing I love the bands:)

Yes, I get really annoyed with the Grateful dead. I think I dislike top 40 music a lot more though. Justin Beiber? eww.

I'm also into the Flobots. And Janis Joplin. Imagine if she hadn't died, what kind of music she could have put out. She could have been the Queen of Rock & Blues. By hippy music do you mean The Dead? I generally like them but after awhile I get annoyed.

@Dawn: guess you're not into Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros:) They're pretty hippy.
I love Johnny Cash & The Cure too...

I like Combichrist, VNV Nation, The Cure, The smashing Pumpkins, Mozart, Tegan and sarah, Tori amos, Sir Mix A Lot, The sex Pistols. I have a huge dislike towards hippie music, rap music, country (I ♥ Johnny cash) and I hate top 40 music.

We like Jack Johnson too. He is our Sunday morning soundtrack while I'm making breakfast.

I have eclectic tastes as well but my main staple is gritty guitar music. Some of my favourite bands are Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys, Deftones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Five Finger Death Punch, Rage Against the Machine, Kyuss, Danzig and Rob Zombie.

i absolutely ADORE jack johnsonpofessionally and personally. he sings many songs about his wife, which make me melt, lol. he refuses to talk about his kids-he doesn't want them in the limelight. he is also very passionate about the environment, and about helping people. 1% of his album proceeds go to his charity he has set up, and 100% of his last tour proceeds went to charity. recently he started recording his albums on 100% solar power, and his cd's come in cardboard packaging not plastic. i ♥ him to the moon and back, lol. enjoy him!! http://youtu.be/OkyrIRyrRdY

@Karla - I love that song! Especially the vegetarian shark part. So I posted it all on FB:) She reminds me of John Prine. A lot.

i love all music, it's certain songs that drive me batty. i'm not too overly fond of hard, hard heavy metal where all they do is scream, or the teeny bop stuff.
i absolutely adore jack johnson, dave matthews band, marilyn manson, eminem, adele, kenny chesney, ray charles, frank sinatra, elvis presley, johnny cash. i'm all over the place with my musical tastes.
my husband is more into heavy death screaming metal-the stuff i'm not too fond of, lol. but he has opened my ears to many other different types of music i would've never listened to before. he's so funny, most of the time he'll be listening to slipknot or something and then christmas time rolls around and he gets all giddy when he gets to listen to bing crosby, hehe.

As for me I have eclectic taste with music, The only thing I don't listen to is rap - it grates on my nerves. So Classical, rock, top 40 (there's some good stuff out now), country, old timey, folk, oldies, some hard rock, but not really into acid rock.

I forgot the why part... I think music reflects my moods, or even counter plays my moods. I might use rock or new age music to help through tough times, etc. And I like the sounds of different styles of music.

I like most music, to be honest...tho I'm not a fan of Pop Country (or pop anything for that matter). I love Rock music...the Beatles, Led Zeppelin (Immigrant Song is my ring tone) and others of their ilk. I also really like Jack White, The Black Keys, and The Decemberists...Janice Joplin, Tori Amos...hmmm I will think some more on this when I am not so sleepy...
