What is your reaction to the facts in this article? Yes, it is definitely written by a liberal, but I want to know what you all think about the fact that some people are making some really hateful racist remarks.

Now, I will be the first to say that some remarks are being taken out of hand and people are being called racist when they are really just being critics. I think we can agree that people are walking on eggshells with Obama as President. However when words like 'coon' are cheered and defended we must admit the racism is there.

Are people using race because they are mad at the current government and just want to be hurtful? Or is it more than that, is the GOP inherently racist? Or are there a few bad seeds making everyone look really bad?

Please let me know what you think.

Yeah, I have to say, I agree with pretty much everything on here. I mean, what you have written - not the article. I think that there are some really ignorant people out there that are making others look bad and I think there is anger that is coming out in ignorant ways. I know I felt anger after the 2004 election so I can see why people are being passionate but they are only hurting themselves when they say stuff like that.

We certainly are not in a 'post-racial' America, however even I get angry when the media tries to say 'the entire Republican party must be racist'. I read this article and thought "Wow, those people are really stupid to say these things but is this really news?" So that's why I wanted to see what you girls had to say about it.

I think it's quite ignorant to label the Republican party as racist. Anyone who thinks that has no idea of what this party stands (or SUPPOSED to stand) for. What is more racist than telling a certain population of our country that "you can't make it, the cards are stacked against you, so we're going to take from a certain group of people and give it to you because we know you can't do any better"? That is nothing more than cloaked racism. It's a myth that repubs are racist, period.

Honestly, Democrats can be just as dumb and say disgusting things and there have been some Democrats and Liberals that I have written angry letters to about crap they have said and I have written my leaders pushing them to speak out, againt inappropriate rhetoric, but I don't care whose mouth it is coming out of it is just dumb for a number of reasons. Does anyone even realize anymore that with the techonological advances today you reallly need to watch what you say even if it is meant as a joke...Is it just me or do people seem to be getting dumber the further techonology advances. We have a generation of teens and young adults now who are going to one day have to explain to their bosses when the go into the professional world why there are pics of them online as teens and young adults in nude poses, showing them binge drinking or smoking pot.

Racists are in every party. There are a lot of well known racists in the democrat party but since they are liberals they get overlooked.

What i think is funny is this person they are talking about is part of the young republicans and they are trying to say she's the future of the gop lol sorry thats not how it works. Most members of the young republicans or young democrats for that matter are secluded to their towns or campus. They hardly ever go onto the National stage unless they run for office which many of them don't. They are not the future of the gop but they are a very small part of it.

I wonder what kind of comments we would see if we studied all the young liberals on facebook lol. Lets look at obama's own comments as well, he has made quite a few racist remarks in his lifetime and he's the president. We could look at his wife's comments as well. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. All have made many racist comments throughout their lives. There was a study done during this election that said 1/3 of the people interviewed that considered themselves to be democrats had racist views against blacks. Does that mean the democrat party as a whole is racist? No it means there are a lot of stupid people in this country

I am not a Republican so I cannot comment from any respect regarding the party and what it represents to those whom are members, but from looking from the outside I have become increasingly disgusted with all the hateful remarks that have been coming from some members of the party and though I would like to think that these hateful and racist diatribes are not representative of the party as a whole it does dishearten me that more Republicans whether they are the leaders or just members of the party are not standing up to vocallly in a formiddable and hard stance to chastise, express their outrage, and make it clear that they do not condone such rhetoric. It is the silence at times or the lack of a harden response to such things that scares me and ultimately saddens me to the deepest core of my being. It is like we are loosing our sense of humanity due to political differences and too many are willing to go to the darkest of places out of frustration and anger.

Well I think that's whole exchange was a bit silly. The coon comment was totally inappropriate, but who hasn't laughed at an inappropriate joke when amongst friends. I do think it's a lesson that our new social world is no longer private. While I'm sure jokes like that happen at private party's and political figures on both sides have laughed, it's never been recorded. I also think that unfortunately their will always be racist A**holes out there, but they surely don't represent the party as a whole.

I do think it's interesting that Obama's pastor for 30+ years has said many more racist/hateful/inappropriate comments then that, and Obama sat there (I'm assuming agreeing otherwise why would he continue to attend) and didn't do anything to speak out against him until the GOP brought it to light during the campaign. Where are all the democrats shouting racism there? You all just elected this man president and yet you (I'm not directing this at you Shannon, just Democrats in general) are all up in arms because one guy made a couple of tasteless jokes on a republican’s, that's low on the totem pole I’ve never even heard of her, facebook page. I think the democrats are trying so hard to "finish off" the Republican Party that they are making mountains out of mole hills everywhere. This was an exchange in poor taste, but we are not a party of racists. I mean come on we just had a black man and a black women as our secretary of state and, until Colin Powell lost his mind, we loved them both. One of our rising stars is Bobby Jindal. I do think that minorities tend to choose the Democratic Party because of certain party platforms, but that doesn't mean we don't welcome minorities who share our values. Sorry for the rant, I'm just getting sick of people using some people with bad judgment to stereotype our entire party. Lets be real, there are plenty of democrats that have been scum bags too *cough* Clinton *cough*, people are human and one's actions can not represent a whole group.
