There are 6 lobbyists from the health care industry for every one member one member of congress? No wonder nothing gets done...65% of people want a public option and it is a "dead issue"
Do ANY of you on the right wonder if you MIGHT be being manipulated by the insurance industry?

In a capitalist society, big brother ceases to be the government...the big man in charge is the corporation...that is where you distrust belongs.

Quoting Laura:

so...now that we've ensured that the stats are correct (thank you)...what do we think about a really LOUD MINORITY taking over the joint?

The reason the dems can't get anything done is because of the power of the corporations and lobbyists. it has nothing to do with you the people disagreeing, because according to the polls...most of you dont :)

That is very true. The Dems need to grow a pair, especially Obama. They need to become that loud and clear voice that the people rally behind. They already have facts and reason going for them, now it's time to pull out the bullhorns to let everyone know about it.

It makes me feel like my hard work to get Obama elected was wasted...I'm not sure what to do to get the dems in congress to realize that they need to do what they promised!!!

This is interesting.

The new CBS/New York Times poll not only shows overwhelming support for the public option -- it shows that a plurality of self-identified Republicans are for it, too.

The poll asked this question: "Would you favor or oppose the government offering everyone a government administered health insurance plan -- something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and older get -- that would compete with private health insurance plans?"

The top-line result is 65% in favor, 26% opposed. Among Democrats only, it's 81%-12%, and independents are at 61%-30%. And among Republican respondents, 47% are in favor, to 42% opposed

Sorry...this posted funny, and it is hard to read, but this poll supports Laura's stats...and it is pretty recent.

Where are you gettting your info that 65% want the public option? Sorry, but if that were indeed true, it would get done. The dems have enough of them in Congress and the Senate, they can do whatever they want. It's the dems holding this thing down, if they all got on the same page, they could do it. Don't blame the r's on this one! :)

I've also seen poll after poll that more people distrust the gov't than they do corporations. Perhaps because the gov't has the power to enforce and business does not?

As for myself, I am not a fan of these huge, global corporations because they have become entrenched in the gov't. Wall Street gave a lot more money to Obama in the last election than they did McCain. I want to see businesses sovereign, and as far away from the gov't as possible. As long as there is the rule of law, business cannot be a thing to be feared in our country. But right now as it stands, business and gov't are locked in a dangerous embrace and that is what the problem is. Business gets away with things they shouldn't because the law (the gov't) is in bed with them. They are rubbing eachother's backs and greasing eachother's palms. It's the R's and the D's that are equally guilty of this and we are getting screwed. That's why I don't understand some of you guys want MORE gov't power. We need less. When business has no interest in who is in power and vice versa, that's when we have the power. The only way to achieve that is for the gov't to let go.
