Policy regarding off-topic posts

If a poster has a particular pet cause, and keeps dragging it into a completely unrelated thread, the post in question WILL be deleted, and the offender will be issued a warning. If it is pertinent to the topic, however, that is fine. I'm not going to ban talk of abortion on a thread about reproductive rights in the Third World, for example -- that would just be silly.

After three warnings, the offender will be banned from posting for a week's period.

And if we have to do THAT three times, then the offender will be banned for good.

I do not like having to do this. I appreciate dissent, and would like to have a very broad range of opinions and viewpoints in this group, and do not want anybody to feel like their opinions are being quashed.

However, there is a difference between expressing your opinion, and hijacking most every single thread in order to talk about your pet cause.

And just so that certain people do not think that I am singling them out, this rule will apply evenly. So if another poster gets a permanent bee in her bonnet about global currency, or terrorism, or Sarah Palin, and starts dragging it into every thread, the same procedures will then apply.

Thank you

Diane, I'm still feeling things out and am trying to formulate it as I go along. It will not be perfect, and I am going to do my best to treat everybody fairly. If you have any suggestions as to how this should be done, I'd love to hear them.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Everybody, please note that I have blocked Diane from posting here for a one-week period, as things appeared to be escalating. So I think that if she has a week off from us, and vice versa, it may help things cool down somewhat.

While she is gone, no-THUMPS will still apply. So any personal attacks upon her will be deleted. I want us to move on from this, move past any negativity, and work towards making this a fantastic, diverse, interesting political debate community.

When I unblock her, if she chooses to return, I would appreciate it if everybody would treat it like a fresh start. So please, keep in mind the no-THUMPS rule, refrain from personal attacks, and direct your energies towards refuting arguments, not blasting personalities.

Thank you

Suggestions..open your eyes to more than just what I say.

And hey do not bash me when you feel like it, do not jump in with the rest of the group here....as you did in the Helen Thomas thread. If you want people to respect you then don't kid around by calling names.
I would suggest you both go and look at the short recap of the Helen thomas conversation.......in the thread I started where you can discuss anything.
Now who was calling the names?........and who derailed the conversation?

Diane, we are just finding it near impossible to hold a reasonable conversation when the topic is constantly changing to one of two topics...there are already threads about those topics, if you suddenly have something to say about them post there...just so that a rational conversation can be held by all.

Damn, it was that stupid seafood thread that prompted my rant too. You naughty kids *shakes fist*

Sounds very fair, I think it should apply equally across the board and I'll try to avoid my desire to drag my obsession with Nancy Pelosi's lip pursing from thread to thread.

I have no issue with discussions that run mildly off topic for a few posts, that's natural and normal. But every thread the same thing, puh-lease! So...

Thanks Krista!!!!

I think that conversation could be considered a digression that was mutually agreed upon by all parties involved.

But I'm biased when it comes to seafood.

Oh, and Laura? Tonight I had mussels for an appetizer, followed by some oysters, and then a homemade lobster roll for supper.

Na-na-na-na-NAAA-NAAAAH!
