i was at work yesterday and there was a woman i work with enjoying some printed off emails that another coworker had given her. she gave them to me to read, and they were all political in nature. one of them went over the top, making a joke about killing muslims and illegals in the same "joke". it made me want to scream actually, it was that bad. then i started realizing that i don't get politically charged emails, and started wondering if this was a republican thing, or if i was just an odd duck. do you dems out there get politically charged emails from friends, or not? and if you do is there nasty stuff in them calling for killing of people in "joke" form, or other nasty things? if you are a republican, do you get these? what do you think of them.
if you all want i can tell the "joke," it's kinda long, but if you want i will. :)

I love humor...I love Saturday Night Live and when they made fun of Sarah Palin........and I love Gutfield when he was making fun of the proposed Mosque. I get emails on both sides.......and like I said if they do not talk about killing someone (do not like 9-11 jokes or about the Holocaust type jokes)........or are violent then they are ok in my book.

To be honest, I must admit that IF I ever got a political email from the left, I probably wouldn't really notice it...I probably have, just laughed and moved on...but when I get a right wing email...I NOTICE.

maybe that's the difference.

Oh I'm sure both sides are guilty of sending stupid political emails. I guess we only see what we get, so...Actually, the right has put out a couple of films (though perhaps not as prolifically as Moore has). One that immediately comes to mind is Ben Stein's film "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" and there is another one where Bill O'Reilly even makes an appearance. I saw Stein's film but not the other one.

But you know what? I don't care who puts out the emails. If they're inaccurate, they're stupid.

Here we go pitting Democrats with Republicans......this is why the two will never get together.
I get emails all the time.
During the election I got ones that bashed Bush...that even talked about his wife that she killed someone.
So people on both sides do it.
And Michael Moore even puts it up on the big screen. What Republican does that?

I'm not a Republican, but I know I am the opposite of you people......... lol

I sometimes get what I guess you would consider political emails, but they aren't violent or racist. Here is one I got recently:
Dr. Seuss 2010
I do not like this Uncle Sam, I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books.
I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like this speaker Nan,
I do not like this 'YES WE CAN'.
I do not like this spending spree,
I'm smart, I know that nothing's free,
I do not like your smug replies, when I complain about your lies.
I do not like this kind of hope.
I do not like it. Nope, nope, nope!

That's pretty much the tone of the ones I get. I don't have friends that would advocate killing anyone though.

And Krista, that girl deserved what she got. I have been known to do the same thing when I get crap that pretends to be factual and is just plain WRONG. If she was embarrassed, maybe she should learn how to blind copy. ;-p

I never get anything political in nature in email...and I'm glad. I'm a Democrat and very liberal for the most part. I live in a very Republican state so I try not to even TALK politics with most of my friends and co-workers cuz' what starts out as a debate, turns into a heated argument and it's not worth it.

I get political emails from my Republican relatives. They're always pretty nasty emails. It's pretty disheartening.

I've only got one that was disturbing to be honest...that one where Sarah Palin said that God created humans, and Michelle Obama said that humans evolved from apes, and the guy said well...Palin was talking about her ancesters and Obama was talking about hers...and it came with some pictures of Michelle Obama speaking with her mouth in an unflattering position, compared side by side to an ape...it disgusted me.

@ Kati: Of course you should. Try that is. To start conversations because they're interesting and nice. But first, have a nice glass of wine;O)

Everybody, put on your teflon suits and resist taking things too personally. The emails swing both ways (one could say they're "bi"). So let's not all get our panties in a knot.

"And hey you guys who want equal rights for gays...you should be in favor of a gay bar next to a Muslim cultural center. They are homophobic aren't they?"

Good lord, no, Diane, not all of them...I have Muslim students every semester at the college where I teach (large Muslim community nearby), and I've never met a homophobic Muslim (my Christian students are far more bigoted against LGBT folk, actually; though not all of them either)...I've heard the radicals spout inflammatory anti-LGBT rhetoric on TV...but all of them??? Totalizing statements are almost all incorrect!

Why kati do you think for one minute I do not have friends who are democrats?

My dad was a democrat. I am open minded and I have a sense of humor. I do not like sick humor however about killing people...but I can laugh at things that are humorous on both sides of the fence.

There is a friend of my sons...who i get into heated debates with. He sends me all sorts of stuff and I send him stuff back. We are friends and we agree to disagree.
My sisters boss is a staunch Democrat and he sends me stuff all the time...pointing out where the Republicans are screwing up. I do the same thing to him.
I thought the segment where Gutfield and Beck were talking about the gay bar was hilarious. The thing is...Muslims won't laugh at it. They will not take it as a joke. They probably will take out a fatwa out on their lives.
You can't poke fun at their faith...is there tolerance in Islam?
And hey you guys who want equal rights for gays...you should be in favor of a gay bar next to a Muslim cultural center. They are homophobic aren't they?

geez diane you'd think that people would know what your politicla position is!!! lol!! that's pretty stupid of them to be sending you bush hate mail.
and my intention wasn't to pin dems against reps, although it does seem that's what this is about. i was honestly curious if i was an odd duck, or what. i guess i did have to know whether or not alot of republicans were sitting around laughing at stupid jokes talking about killing people, and if they actually passed these around to each other. there was like 20 forwarded names on the list. i just thought it was icky that people do that. there was another joke about obama bringing the country to hell or something, but i didn't feel it was offensive or anything. incorrect, yes, :) offensive no. but the other joke really got to me. sorry if i hit a nerve.:)

i have a "friend" who sends me stuff about how dems are all turds basically. i don't have enough balls to tell her to stop. my best friend is pretty good friends with her (way more than i am), and my best friend is VERY liberal. tree hugger, hairy legs and pits, lol, and worked or i guess i should say volunteered at a womans center/ abortion clinic. very liberal. and this woman knows that and still sends her these things. she doesn't seem very bright sometimes. she's a nice lady, just not all there.

Politics have no place at work. I don't appreciate getting emails like that from co-workers, and I tell them as much. It's unprofessional.

If my dad's hoping to convert me over to the far right (and I think he is), probably sending me falsehoods and bullshit is not the way to do it:o)

I don't get political emails from friends, hoenstly I don't get emails at all from friends. We text, there's no need for email.

I do still receive newsletter from the campaign for liberty (Ron Paul) and from the NRDC. I think my old liberal activism site gave up on me because I rarely check my email.

As for jokes, we don't really do jokes. Our conversations are funny enough on their own, we don't need scripted humor.

Unfortunately my dad likes porn. It'd only encourage him. I could however send him daily pictures of Helen Thomas. Maybe that would work.

I've never had anyone send me much political e-mail. My mom occasionally forwards some stuff that she gets from some friends of theirs in California who are really political, but nothing from here. The only thing political I ever get is from the Facebook newsfeed. But that is not as if they are sending it directly to me.

I used to get daily religious e-mails from an acquaintance that I'd worked with. I politely asked her to stop, I begged her to stop, I sent her my entire joke e-mail box to convince her that she should stop, I sent her pictures of dead animals, and I threatened to get a friend at the phone/internet company to cut off her account. What finally worked is when I responded to each proselytizing e-mail with an incredibly lurid pornography e-mail of my own. It took a week but she finally gave it up. Thankfully because I was sending her stuff that was turning my own stomach.

Eh, that's what Dad's are for Pamela. He is probably hoping that if he sends you enough you will come to your senses and get back over to the "right" side.......

My dad sends me right-winged political emails constantly. Has any one heard of Harry Ploger? If not, sorry. You have now. I've asked him to stop but he won't. One time he sent me an email with a photo-shopped picture of Obama shining Palin The Quitter's shoes. I was so offended. So normally, I delete before actually looking.

But lately, I've been doing more fact checking with them, refuting the inaccuracies and have started sending them back to the old feller. Usually I do "reply all" as well. I've encouraged dad to at least do a snopes check on the stuff he sends but (rolling eyes) he won't. The most frustrating thing about all of this is the people who send this stuff on, don't really give a rat's a$$ if it's accurate or not. Dad knows my political and religious leanings and frankly, he doesn't care.

[deleted account]

People don't send those things to me via email anymore because they know I hit reply all and rebut every point in it. If she was passing this around at work, I'd advise her that it's probably against company policy and not to do it again.

Yeah, hoax chain emails are a major pet peeve of mine. It takes 20 frigging seconds to check Snopes, so why not do that instead of just mindlessly hitting "forward"?

I have not received any emails like this recently...I don't remember IF I got any while President Bush was in office...I don't think so, but I suppose I could have gotten one or two and forgotten about them. I've NEVER gotten any that pretent to be humorous but are really racist, homophobic, or otherwise vicious...that could be because my friends and family know better than to send me that shit. I have a fabulous sense of humor, but I don't find any of that stuff even remotely funny!

The only chain mails I tend to get are the usual crap ones, or religious ones sent by my mother. I get some gay rights ones sent by friends.

But no, I've never received any that joke about hurting or killing people, and if I DID receive anything like that, I would not be shy in hitting "reply all" and giving them a piece of my mind.

Someone once sent me an anti-immigration one that was full of inaccuracies and falsehoods. I hit reply all and quoted what Snopes had to say about it.

The original sender was PISSED that I had embarrassed her in front of her entire mailing list. But, the way I see it is this: if you're dumb enough to send a political or religious email to people without knowing exactly what their leanings and opinions are, then you deserve to be embarrassed.
