Ugh this is ridiculously sad. Tuition alone is projected to cost between $12,000-$40,000 per year by the time our oldest starts university. Depends on the course she takes and which school she goes to. Keep in mind that is ONLY tuition and includes no other living costs, books, etc.

Clearly you didn't read the article, where they included the possibility of using a sperm donor or surrogate to have children of their own. They used a scenario where a female couple used sperm from a friend or and didn't have to pay for a donor or insemination costs, thus discounting that extra cost that many homosexual couples would have to pay. They still came out behind.

Anyway, it just points out yet another inadequacy that comes from denying people rights.

That's a good point Dana. My kids do have more than most because we can afford to get it for them. I don't factor in university because by the time my kids DO get there it's going to be an even higher cost than what it's at now for a general 4 years. I'll have to look at their college fund papers and see what the projected costs would be by 2018. The year our oldest will be starting university if she chooses to after high school.

Interesting article. As far as the cost of raising a child, it can be anywhere from $150,000 to $400,000. All depending on income and private/public college.

Of course gay couples have kids...good grief! I know a lesbian couple that is raising three children from one member's previous relationship (she was convinced to marry a man by her Christian parents, and convinced that she was evil for having feelings for women, so she married an abusive older man, and had three children with him, now she and her children are much happier, healthier, and safer). I know a gay couple that has adopted a son. I have a friend who acted as a surrogate mom twice for her cousin and his gay partner...there are many ways for a loving gay family to have and raise children! As far as I am aware, none of them are cheaper for gay couples than for heterosexual couples.

In the article it states they gave the fictional gay couple 2 kids, just like the married heterosexual couple. I support gay marriage though and they have it here. Go Canada!

And just as a side note.... Where on earth does a person live that it only costs $200,000 in 18 years for a kid? Mine cost quite a bit more than that and I have free health care. /:)

How about getting rid of the marriage penalty for straight couples instead. Less tax is always better than more.



Not gonna get into the whole gay thing...been there, done that, I don't see our sides coming to an agreement on that one in the near future.
