Why Obama?

There's all this talk against the GOP candidates thus far, but I want to know SPECIFICALLY why does Obama deserve a second term? What has he done that gives him your support in 2012? I don't want to hear about gay marriage or abortion; we all know who's on what side of that argument. What has he done for foreign policy or the economy? What has he done to improve this country from 2008? You may just be supporting him because the alternative is not an option and that's fair, but pretend I'm a moderate who is undecided. Why should I support Obama for a second term?

My experience:

In case Stacy ever comes back…

Your blogger “Karl” from Patterico’s Ponitifications says:

“The point here is not that PolitiFact’s claim is a lie, or that PolitiFact is biased (although the latter is fairly obvious). Rather, the point is that the question of whether ObamaCare is a government takeover of the healthcare system is one of political opinion, not a simple question of fact. Indeed, the difference in opinion between those whom PolitiFact labels as liars and the CBO is a percentage point or so.”

You know, if you are going to listen to bloggers, then know it’s ALL about opinion. Political leanings are about opinion; but I hope those opinions are based in logic, facts, education, and information, NOT someone else’s opinion.

What Karl did NOT say, is that his cut-n-paste of the article “PolitiFact's Lie of the Year: 'A government takeover of health care'” was incomplete. I would suggest you go to politifact.com and read the WHOLE ARTICLE.

In case you decide not to do that, here’s something Karl missed:

Maggie Mahar said “If you’re going to tell the truth about something as complicated as health care and health care reform, you probably need at least four sentences, you can’t do it in four words.” (referring to “government takeover of health care”)

Politifact then explains how often the term (talking point) was used in various media reports.

Then they explain this: In 2009, Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist, met with focus groups to determine which messages would work best for Republicans. (Politifact tried to contact Luntz for comment but he did not respond.) Out of this meeting came a 28 page memo called “The Language of Healthcare 2009.”

Politifact goes on to explain:

“The memo begins with ‘The 10 Rules for Stopping the 'Washington Takeover' of Healthcare.’ Rule No. 4 says people ‘are deathly afraid that a government takeover will lower their quality of care – so they are extremely receptive to the anti-Washington approach. It's not an economic issue. It's a bureaucratic issue.’”

The memo also says:

"The arguments against the Democrats' healthcare plan must center around politicians, bureaucrats and Washington ... not the free market, tax incentives or competition."

This was a definitive effort by Republicans (many who are invested in Insurance Companies, and the health care industry) to manipulate you – or the collective us.

Besides the fact that it IS NOT a takeover of healthcare, (which politifact talked about in the earlier part of their article) this Republican memo, and effort is why politifact deemed the “Government takeover of Healthcare” as the lie of the year. Because it was a giant talking point that did not explain the Healthcare Plan at all. It didn’t offer information, education, facts, and it was illogical. Republicans used your fear to their advantage; this is the kind of thing that enough people respond to and believe that keeps Republican ideals alive, ideals that are not to the benefit of the society as a whole.

Stacy’s link is called “Patterico’s Pontificatins: Harangues that just make sense”

But I cannot find any identification of Karl, (Karl Patterico? Karl Rove? Karl Jones?) or any backers for it. I think it’s just another random blogger. I just find it hypocritical to link a blogger while discounting those sites trying to state factual information – cited, open, and willing to look at more information if it’s offered.

*Okay, I searched (with Google!) Patterico again and found this – from all places Breitbart’s “Big Journalism” site:
“Patrick Frey aka Patterico maintains the blog patterico.com, which is primarily devoted to the impossible task of keeping the Los Angeles Times honest. Patterico is a Los Angeles County prosecutor; the opinions expressed here are his alone, are expressed in an individual capacity, and do not reflect the views of his office”
***And that still does not explain who “Karl” is.

And someone tell me what Huff-n-Puff is, I looked it up and can only find asthma medication! Lol Really, is it Huffington Post? I assumed that at first, but it didn’t seem to fit.

@Stacy
Yup, you’re right, the Fairness pay Act didn’t pass, but Obama does support it, nice of me to point that out, wasn’t it? You haven’t really said whether or not you agree with him.
If anyone wants information on it, here’s a link. It’s in subcommittee in the House and Senate.
http://www.pay-equity.org/info-leg.html

Your “Karl” blogger is biased, maybe someday I’ll tell you how, but I’m too busy dealing with your other claims right now to address “Karl.” BTW, if I had linked to a blogger you would have had a fit – you have an amazing double standard.

Concerning Obama giving “bribes” for votes: I don’t even know if all that stuff you listed is true or not, but I will ask: do you really think increasing Medicare payment to hospitals in low density states is a bribe? No, that’s not a bribe, that’s give and take and that’s how government makes progress. Now I would agree it is also how we end up with too much pork sometimes.

On wikipedia, I have found it to be useful, they have a warning on articles that aren’t well sourced, and this isn’t college anyway.

Am I supposed to be all upset because the Annenberg Foundation gave tons of money for the schools via the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, or because Barack Obama was a chair on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and Bill Ayers co-authored the grant proposal to win the Foundation’s donation? I’m thinking the second. MY point about the Annenberg Foundation was in reference to your discounting the value of factcheck.org because they are backed by the Annenberg Foundation. And quite frankly, I know about all the hype with Bill Ayers, I’ve read what he did (when Obama was a boy in HI so far away from Chicago), and I know the statute of limitations is up and there’s not a thing anyone can do about it. I also know he’s dedicated the rest of his life to education, and I’m gonna judge that Obama’s connection with Ayers isn’t near what you or any of your “Karl” bloggers say it is.

Agreed, you can say “where’s the BC” and I’ll say “you are a birther.” And that will be the end of that.

I only said that point 3 had been covered by someone else, so I don’t get your “already addressed, already addressed..” statement.

Really? I just saw the post saying you are leaving. LOL
Okay then. My closing statement: Your “facts” lack substance. You covered 7 of the 90 some points on the list, you never mentioned my #1 thing that Obama did which was end torture! How are you “playing” exactly?

I made points you never addressed… like explaining Obama paying his lawyers NOT TO HIDE anything, but to answer lawsuits which was obviously done successfully. What say you to that?
Pamela addressed your allegations about the Health Care Plan- polls show Americans wanted it, and most of the “displeasure” with the outcome was because people wanted the Plan to do more, as Obama had hoped as well

You call the give and take of government and legislation “bribes?” You really think Obama was the first to do that?

You mock me for using Wikipedia, and for recommending politifacts and factcheck and yet your main link is to a blogger named “Karl”

What was this?

BLOGGER! What did you not like about his blog....already asked and never answered....forget it....poor Karl I tried to get your story out!

Payoffs: Cornhusker kickback, Louisiana Purchase, Florida Flim Flam, Minnesota Democrat Max Baucus-included in the legislation an expansion of Medicare to cover people exposed to asbestos from a Libby, Mont., mine. an item that increases Medicare payments to hospitals and doctors in states where half the counties are "frontier counties" -- which means they have small population densities. Those states? Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders-secured $10 billion to increase community health centers around the country, including two in his home state. Additional Medicaid funding for Vermont and Massachusetts; Medicare Advantage protections for New York and Pennsylvania, in addition to Florida; and $100 million for a health care facility/medical school in an unknown state.

ooooooo lets not forget Obama waivers for those who are really special! Maybe there should be an investigation to see if any of these people who got waivers have donated to the Obama fund or any other person in office who voted for this bill, Im just asking?

@Stacy

The HoR approved the new Paycheck fairness Act because the last Census showed women still earn less than men for similar work. The bill did not make it through the Senate in 2010. President Obama said in March 2011 that he will continue to fight for the goals in the Paycheck Fairness Act. The bill was reintroduced in both houses in April, 2011.
The 2010 bill had NO Republican co-sponsors DESPITE the fact that 4 Republicans SUPPORTED an earlier bill to address gender-based wage discrimination.

I see no reason to NOT support this bill.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/bir...

Of course, we all know that Snopes is "liberally" biased, and Orly Taites is a reliable and trustworthy source of information (sarcasm to the nth degree very much intended).

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0...

If everything you say is true, he never would have gotten into office. Do you really think for one single solitary moment that Hilary Clinton or the Republicans (who's healthcare plan it is currently on the table) would not have screamed to HIGH heaven if Obama were:

A) Really a citizen of Kenya or Indonesia and not the US

B) Really a Muslim

C) Had a fake SS#

Please. Why could we care less about his school records and SS#? Because it's horseshit and we have better things to pontificate on.

Okay Stacy, very interesting.
A link is a link, like this: http://www.ssa.gov/history/ssn/geocard.h...

And a cut-n-past is when I copy something from somewhere and paste it here, like this:
Since 1972, when SSA began assigning SSNs and issuing cards centrally from Baltimore, the area number assigned has been based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the application for the original Social Security card. The applicant's mailing address does not have to be the same as their place of residence. Thus, the Area Number does not necessarily represent the State of residence of the applicant, either prior to 1972 or since.”

“Thus, the Area Number does not necessarily represent the State of residence of the applicant, either prior to 1972 or since.”
Oops, pasted that part twice.

Link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_H._A...
Cut-n-paste:
“Even while an active businessman, Annenberg had an interest in public service. In 1953, he became one of the founding trustees of Eisenhower Fellowships. After Richard M. Nixon was elected President, he appointed Annenberg as ambassador to the Court of St. James's in the United Kingdom.”
“It was Annenberg who introduced President Reagan to British Prime MinisterMargaret Thatcher, and the Reagans often celebrated New Year's Eve with the Annenbergs. Leonore Annenberg was named by President Ronald Reagan as the State Department's Chief of Protocol as well.”
“He sold TV Guide, Seventeen, and a few other publications to Australian publishing magnate Rupert Murdoch in 1988.”

Walter Anneneber sounds like he only palled around with conservatives! Wow. Now the current trustees of the Anneneberg Foundation are Wallis Annenberg and her grown children, so I admit they may be liberal. Point being, just because a group is non-profit and just because a person put a ton of money into philanthropy, doesn’t mean they are liberal.

You just bad-mouth politifact.com and factcheck.org and then quote “karl” without telling us who his backer is or what his last name is, and then you scoff when it’s mentioned? I’m wondering how you can trust “Karl” when you don’t know who his backers are. I read the article and find it slanted.

If anyone can prove Obama actually paid off senators for votes on the Health Care Plan, then I do believe there would be an investigation, especially now with Boehner as SOH. So if all the conservatives know about this, then hey, share this wealth of information, indulge us with this knowledge, and please cite your sources. Thanks.

Points 1 and 2, cut wasteful spending and practices…
If you have information about your questions about the expense of Obama’s Cost Savings plans, then please present them, but I’m not going to do the research for them just so I can defend them. Present me with something concrete that says this is costing more money then it’s saving.

Point 3 – .Instituted enforcements for equal pay for women. Someone else covered that… the key word is enforcements… having a law means nothing if it is not enforced.

4. Withdrawing troops from Iraq. I cannot speak for Democrats. Personally, I never thought his campaign promise was realistic, so I’m not upset about how long it’s taking. We went into Iraq, we made a mess, I am NOT for withdrawing troops without FIRST overseeing some clean-up and stabilizing efforts. He is managing to withdraw troops nonetheless. Are you really upset about this?

5. & 6. Ended media “blackout” on casualties but with respect to family’s requests.
Really? Are you really going to argue every point? You really think he did it for a photo op? You really think the President is saying – oh look, now you can actually see and count how many of our military are dying in the war, now take my picture!?
No. just no.

7. Really? Guess what? You just proved you are a birther. Reputable sources say his long form is legit, they said the short form was legit, and they say he was born in HI, and they have a birth announcement from the paper when he was born.
Don’t expect any rational person to say he’s a bad President on this point.

FYI, During his campaign Obama spent $2.6 million to lawyers, and this is apparently the number attributed to “hiding his past.” Mind you, McCain spent $1.3 million during the campaign. It has been confirmed that some of the legal fees were needed to defend unwarranted lawsuits challenging Obama’s citizenship. It was NOT to hide his past, but rather to answer a lawsuit. If Obama had lost that lawsuit, he would not be President today. So, yes, he spent some money dealing with these idiotic claims, but no, the money spent on lawyers was not all on that issue.

A lawsuit was filed by the RNC saying Obama received donations from foreign nationals, etc. His lawyers also answered those claims; obviously to the satisfaction of the RNC or they would still be perusing this.

Maybe you should write President Obama and request a copy of what ever records it is that you want to see; just to see how the White House responds.

This birth certificate crap is hogwash. Even if it were forged (and it wasn't) Obama's mother was an American citizen so no matter WHERE he was born, Obama is a natural-born US citizen. Even if he were adopted many times over, that birth right would not be removed unless he himself chose to relinquish it in favor of citizenship in another country. That is US law. His parents cannot relinquish it for him even when he is a minor - he is the only one who can. So even if he was born in Madegascar or the Soviet Union or Antarctica, Obama is an American citizen because his mother was one.

And my SSN was issued in California but also starts with 042. Am I also a fraud? I was old enough to remember going to the SS office in Oakland, and watching my mom apply for it.

And just a hint: those who use spell check are more often considered to be knowledgeable than those who let misspellings stand.

And I think it's absolutely hilarious that you're still on about Obama's identity. Do you really honestly believe that the combined political clout of the Clintons, as well as of the entire right-wing, were utterly unable to get to the bottom of the indecipherable mystery woven by one junior senator? You saw how ugly the Democratic primaries got. If there was ANYTHING to this birther nonsense, the Clintons would have been all over that like Rush Limbaugh on Carribean pool boy.

I find it odd that you do not know the difference between Rhinos and Republicans and why the tea party started existing?

If you dont know the bribes the president gave out to congressmen for votes then Im sorry you do not keep up on the news, Im not listing all of them since every conservative already knows them.

I gave you a link to a blogger who I thought presented the evidence quite well, sorry you dont agree but also find it strange there are no objections to what he wrote?

The paycheck fairness act is by Ms. De Lauro D CT3, in March 2007, the last it was seen was passed in the house July 31 2008 and then nothing....Obama became president Nov 4th 2008...So I dont think Obama has anything to do with this and it did not even become law?

As I hate quoting the Huff N Fluff, I do not say never and one reporter did write an excellent article on the Pigford case; I even sent a congrats email, it was awesome!

Airtight, now that is strange that even Democrats dont want the truth about who he really is? He spends millions hiding it and you just follow him because???? The courts keep blocking all who try and get the truth because????? Serious, well then why did the Democrats demand that Mc Cain show his??? Show me links that prove he paid anyone off to get it passed. Conservatives tend to ignore the fact that Obama was actually elected by a good majority of the American people - and a good majority of the American people wanted Health care reform. Oh and here's a question that no one will answer: the health care reform that was passed is very similar to a bill proposed by Republicans back in the 90's during Clinton's administration. It's practically the same bill Romney enacted in his state. Funny you all find it so repugnant coming from Obama when it is basically a REPUBLICAN bill.

7.The White House and federal government are respecting the Freedom of Information Act;

A. Where is Obama;s real birth certificate; I was not a birther but his latest release of such a false document is scaring me.
B. Where is Obama's school records?
C. Why does Obama have a SS number from a state he never lived in?
D. In fact all Obamas records are missing or sealed, why?

There are many lawsuits regarding Obama and his lack of transparency,

Most important is Obama's first act as POTUS, EXECUTIVE ORDER 13489, to hide all his records.

5.Ended media "blackout" on war casualties; reporting full information;
6.Ended media "blackout" on covering the return of fallen soldiers to Dover A.F.B.; the media is now permitted to do so pending adherence to respectful rules and approval of fallen soldier's family;

So Obama lifted the media blackout that Bush put into place because he felt the families needed privacy, and Obama lifted the blackout, as long as the family gives approval, not bad, but paying for a photo opt, you actually list as an accomplishment?

4.Beginning the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq

How long has Obama been doing this? Why are we still there? Democrats were screaming mad when Bush was in office, now nothing, it does seem strange that after two years in office we are still there and you are silent?
