Anyone ever seen a ghost? Are you a believer, have any exciting ghost stories to share?

I don't know if I am just deliriously tired and delusional, but there was just someone sitting on my couch, but there is no one there, I have seen flashes or shadows of someone over the past few weeks, I really don't know what to think? I have never given the whole subject much thought, except I always thought I would FREAK if I ever saw anything like a ghost, but strangely I am calm, not scared at all..... strange

When I was about 9, my mom wanted to move o a bigger house. A kind lady sold us this brick home that was built by her husband. A couple of years after we moved in, I heard that same lady walking down the hallway and then peering into my room. I asked my mom how the lady was doing, and she said she passed a couple of weeks before. My room was previously a little girl's room, so I'm guessing it was her daughter's or granddaughter's. My mom saw the lady too alot of times. It wasn't scary though.

When my DH and I moved to our first apartment, I didn't want the master bedroom for some reason, and I couldn'tt figure out why, but it scared me. So we gave it to the stepkids. We later figured out it was because a kind spirited woman inhabited that room. I never saw her full apparatus, but I saw her shadow sometimes. I know my oldest SS could feel her too. I have shivers now. Heh.

Well the women in my family have been haunted by what can only be described as an incubus .

We are randomly visited by a dark shadowy man who pins us to our beds and chokes us , i feel cold and powerless like my chest might cave in and an overwhelming feeling of dread .

The first night was when my little sister , my mother and i were asleep i woke to find him on top of me scaring choking me i struggled and finally broke free and ran out into the hall way where i met my sister with an equally terrified look on her face we both just looked at each other and ran into mums room as we ran into her room we saw her sit up quickly and scream in her bed , we all dived in and my little sister said " mummy there was a dark man choking me " mum didnt say anything ( i later found out she had seen him too ) and i burst into tears because he had came to visit me too .

I researched and heard about the incubus that preys on vulnerable women ( no man in our house ) it perfectly describes exactly what we have experienced .

He has visited myself and my sister frequently mainly when we are home alone or when i am about to have an epileptic fit , he stands at the end of my bed and watches while i struggle , as we have grown older he hasnt come as often and i dont feel as scared of him as i used to but occasionally he comes , scary thing is there are accounts of this ALL over the world in all cultures .
Im not sure why he attached himself to us or if he is the same one or three separate entities but he is scary , allthough when i see him im not as afraid i still feel anxious when Jamie goes out fishing at night. .

When I first moved in with my husband (fiance at the time) we lived in this microscopic little apartment....with a white ghost cat.

The first time I saw the cat, I was not living there yet, we were not even dating, and I watched it walk across the top of the TV. I didn't think anything of it, I just figured he had a cat. I saw it a few more times over the course of the year that we started dating then got engaged, but we didn't spend much time at the apartment so I never noticed the lack of cat food or litter until I moved in. I also didn't see the cat that week, so I asked him what happened to the cat. He said, "I don't have a cat, but there is a white ghost cat that lives here. I see it every now and then."

That freaked me out, but I got used to the cat.

During the year and a half that we lived in that apartment, 4 different friends who did not know each other asked us when we had adopted a cat. When I asked them to describe the cat, they always described a solid white cat, average size. When we decided to get a dog, another friend asked how we thought the cat would get along with the dog. Turns out, not so well. The cat constantly teased our poor dog. Occasionally, I would see the cat dart from the desk to behind the TV and the dog would go crazy. Other times, I would see the dog barking like mad at a bare wall.

That cat was SOOO clear that I often wonder if it was a real cat that belonged to a neighbor and simply learned some secret way to get in and out of our apartment, but then, I often looked for him only seconds after I had watched him walk across the TV or computer (He loved the electronics, I rarely saw him anywhere else), but I was never able to find him.

Once we moved, we never saw the cat again and my dog stopped barking at walls. My husband claims that he saw the cat on our first day in our house, and I thought I saw him on the first day at the apartment we moved to after the tiny one, but neither of us saw him clearly...odd.

Well this was the WRONG thread to read home alone at night!! I should have known better!
Lucky for me, I haven't had any ghost experiences, nor do I want to. I'm not sure what to believe about ghosts. I believe in a spiritual world, but not sure where the ghosts of people fit into it.

I've never seen one myself however I do believe. My mom's best friend's Dad died in the house that she grew up in and once he passed the house was given to her. Often times around midnight Loretta (my mom's best friend) would hear someone walking around in the attic. This would happen just about every night around the same time; she believed it was her father. Then one night as Loretta slept something told her to wake up. She sat up in her bed and there stand her Dad at the foot of her bed just staring at her. This happened a few times before the house ended up burning down. I have some of my grandmother's ashes in a locket at my house and I swear I feel her presence from time to time. I've never seen a ghost of her however I do feel her sometimes.

I have never seen anything, but I've heard a male voice in my home when no one else was around. Pretty freaky. Looking forward to reading everyone's stories!

I believe. I think that despite the skepticism, people are more apt to see ghosts when they're vulnerable (tired, stressed, sad, angry, etc). I don't know enough about spirits and the afterlife to know what the ghost wants...but if you have a calm feeling in the presence of this ghost I'm inclined to think that whoever it is has business with you...could be a guardian or an ancestor trying to give you a message. Next time you see the ghost try to focus a bit more on them and try to communicate...sounds freaky but if they are making themselves visible to you there is a reason I believe.

I don't know if it's ever happened again- my grandpa sold the house and moved after grandma died. I've heard similar explanations that sometimes evil spirits can use the death of someone as sort of an "entrance." I guess I'll never know but I'll always wonder!

@ Jessica,

this is just a guess here but maybe this presence in the kitchen was a presence that manifested because your grand- mother was no longer there... She might have been a protector while she was in her home. You never know, maybe she had asked this presence to stay away from her house but once she passed the presence decided to manifest itself. Has that ever happened again?

I *LOVE* these stories! I haven't experienced too much myself, but people around me have and I do believe in this kind of thing. The one experience I did have was absolutely freaky:

This happened after my grandmother died... I was 20 at the time, so this was 5 years ago. My grandmother was very sick and in the hospital, and we knew she didn't have much longer. My brother, sister, dad, aunt and uncle went down to stay with my grandpa while this was going on. Within a couple days, she passed. It was very emotionally hard on everyone.

Well, that night, everyone was in bed- my sister and I shared a pull-out bed in the living room, and our brother was on the couch near us. Everyone else was in guest bedrooms. The kitchen is right off the living room, where we were. We were laying there awake sometime in the middle of the night and I started getting this really horrible feeling. It was such a strong, negative, evil creepy feeling that just seemed to come from nowhere- it honestly terrified me. Then things started moving and banging around in the kitchen. Chairs moving, pots and pans clanging around, etc. And that really bad feeling intensified. My sister was awake and listening too. I was too terrified to look over into the kitchen because I was afraid of what I'd see. Eventually it stopped...

The next day my brother said he looked in the kitchen while all that was going on and said he felt the same bad feeling, and saw this shadowy figure. My dad and aunt asked us if we were in the kitchen doing stuff that night, because they heard it too. We were all honestly so freaked out by it. We at first assumed it was our grandma- after all she had just died, and the kitchen would be a natural place for her spirit to manifest because she was always in the kitchen doing something. But we couldn't figure out why it felt so evil and negative, because she was a kind loving person!

I believe in ghosts for sure. I haven't had any personal experiences but my husband has. I think I have felt some activity but nothing was clear.

if you are feeling calm after seeing this person on your couch, then that's a good sign. Positive or neutral presences are nothing to be scared of. Or like JuLeah said it may just be residual energy.

My husband used to live in a old house by the river with his family. A dark man in a trench coat and cowboy hat appeared to him and his step-dad on a few occasions. From what he's told me, the presence was NOT good. He gave them the creeps. They had the feeling of being watched and would see him on the porch from time to time. Moreover, Kevin's bedroom light bulb would burn out every few days for no apparent reason. The electrical system was fine. The activity was more intense in Kevin's bedroom... His brand new walk-man would randomly slow down and make very odd noises... They tried communicating with the man which resulted in everyone feeling creeped out of their mind, the candle they had lit got blown out and they just felt incredibly uncomfortable. They ran back into the house and called in a specialist who set up some copper wire and other things to create an energy barrier and isolate the house from this presence. After that, nothing else ever happened and the light bulbs stopped burning out. the guy told them that living in an old house and being so close to a body of water was ideal for spirits to get their energy from.

I have seen/believe. I have seen too much to not believe. My family (the women anyway) all have had experiences. I don't think there is cause for fear. I am sure the person sitting on your couch is there for a reason, (may not have anything to do with you) or just a residual.
