Any tips on potty training a 2 year old girl?

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

I have successfully potty trained 2 boys with quite some ease, but am not having much luck with my 2 year old daughter. She will sit, but won't go. So i dont think she is making the connection. Any ideas or suggestions will be helpful!!

My daughter is 2 & now gets the concept, however she doesnt always make it to the potty. I purchased a "princess potty chair" -(which can be found @ wal-mart/target). It plays music when liquid hits the bottom of the bowl. It also has a detachable seat, which fits into an adult toilet. ..I love it. I also started out, but quickly discontinued rewarding her with a treat -(such as a mini-M&M) when she first began to attempt pottying like a big girl. She is now half potty-trained:)

My daughter was 3 when she was fully potty trained (well not at night yet). But we finally just put panties on her and she didn't like being wet all the time. I have a friend in our playgroup that her 16 month old is potty training from watching all the older kids go! Bring a potty chair with you every where you go and do use any more diapers other than naps and bed time! We also started out giving her a treat every time she went potty and took a toy away every time she got wet. Now she only gets a treat when she poops in the potty. Hope it helps...and most of the mom's I know kept telling me to just get rid of the diapers and put panties on her cause that's what worked for them!

Personally I think you should wait a bit! My daughter was 22 months old when she seemed ready to be potty trained. For many reason we stopped and decided to wait. I really wished I wouldnt have when 2 months later I started trying to train again. She did not have the same excitement and she kept asking for a diaper! She we just worked with her and encouraged her to be done with diapers and go potty like a big girl. Today we started again (she is 25 months) and she was so excited about it! Its so much easier when they are excited about it. Hope that helps!

I am in the same boat. my 21 month old daughter will sit on it and then say "No way! All done!". She hasn't gone in months. I hope we get some good posts...
