My daughter first used the potty, both pee and poop, at 18 months. Now she's nearly 4, and she flat-out refuses to go on a regular basis. She has days where she'll go every single day, and then she has days where she will sit on the potty all day and not spill a drop. She mostly stays dry during nap and bedtime, so we don't know where she's putting all that pee! She won't tell us when she needs to go, and she won't tell us when she HAS gone, to the point where she'll lie and say she hasn't gone when obviously she has. We have tried sticker chart, food treats, special privileges like the library and movies, putting her on every hour, putting her on UNTIL she goes, offering her "big girl" incentives like a new bed with sheets she got to pick out, putting her in just big girl underpants (which she picked out but just goes potty inside of), and about a half dozen other alternatives. She even changes her own diaper, except poop, and HATES to be touched for cleaning. Literally everything we've seen and heard we've tried. We can't put her into preschool until she's potty trained. Please help!!!!

Oh yes, she doesn't seem to care about being cold and/or wet. We would let her go in her diaper to the point of ridiculousness. I'm hoping that the peer pressure will help, too. It's just frustrating and I didn't know if anyone else might have any suggestions. I guess we'll just have to give it time - she won't be in diapers forever, right?? Haha!

does she have a diaper on all the time? I presume you have tried going cold turkey and just pants so when she is wet and dirty she feels it?

I'm very sympathetic and dealing with my 4-year-old boy and pooping. We did the sticker charts, food treats, putting him on every hour, and other "poo poo presents" with no luck. It's just beginning to click. Luckily, his preschool is really laid back about this, so he can stay in pullups if he wants. But since all the other kids have underwear, he's beginning to notice and want to be like them, maybe? Nothing like peer pressure!

Oh yes, she's seen us go. At first we thought it was regression, because we had our second child when she was about 2 years and 4 months. However, he's about a year and a half old, and we've given her several "breaks" in case she was just not ready. SO frustrated! We have potty books, potty videos, everything! I wonder where she gets her willfullness from - certainly not me!

Has she seen YOU use the potty (for #1 and #2)? That could help her to see that grown ups use it too. What about having her watch older siblings or cousins? SHe might just need a role model. Just throwing out an idea...mine is 21 months and is not interested at all in using her potty.
