Please help! My daughter, who just turned 3, has been potty training since Aug. She is definitely day trained as far as peeing, but REFUSES to have a bowel movement. She definitely has a very routine time that she needs to have a bowel movement and always asks for a diaper. I have tried putting her on the potty instead and then she holds it and becomes extremely constipated. Any suggestions to get over this little "hump"???

Okay I thought I was the only mother out there with this problem and I was beginning to think I was an awful mother because of it..My daughter is 4 I have been potty training her since she was 3..She has the number1 done to a science and will even stop playing to go potty as for the number 2 it has been crazy..I have tried everything to get her to go and when I say everything I mean everything she goes and hide..I will catch her in poop mode that's what I call it and place her o the potty and she will eventually give in and go..But then when it strikes her again she goes and hide..It is very frustrating as a mother not to be able to comfort her enough to be comfortable to do number2 on the potty I really am at my wits end on this subject out of ideas..My son was so easy he was potty trained at 2..HELP!!!!!!

I have the same problem and my daughter is also just turned 3 she pee's in the potty but will not poop she goes in her pull-up or underwear and if i catch her pooping i try to bring her to the potty and she pretty much cries bloody murder..it is NOT fun changing a 3 foot tall 3 year old's poopy diaper especially since I got a 1 month old son who is really needy right now. I feel your pain and just had to vent with another mom going through the same thing.

I had the same problem until Jan 1st. My daughter now goes poop regularly.
I read that they are afraid to poop because maybe they had a bad experience. Well for me I remember she pooped in the toilet when she was constipated and it hurt and she remembered it.

What I did was let her poop in her pull ups then dump it is the toilet. Let them in the bathroom when you are going ( i know i know). Also they way I finally got her to go is to let her stand on the toilet seat and stoop down ( I held her so she wouldn't fall in). She pushed and it didn't hurt. We made a huge deal (high fives all around) and now she can't stop going to the toilet. She wants to poop and let everyone know.

I think they have to get over that initial fear. By making her stand on the toilet and stooping, it helped her get over it.

my little girl had the same problem (she would go hide)she was very against the #2 thing. One time i just happen to catch her seconds before she was going to do it i brought her to the tiolet and sat her down almost holding her down (but calling it a hug) also telling her just do it with encourging words at that point it was to late to hold it in and there it wasYAY Its amazing when your a mom how excited you can get over a #2 so anyway after that the fear was gone.hope this helps a little

I've heard (not my experience) that first have them go to the bathroom to poop in their diaper. After they are used to pooping in the bathroom then have them sit on the toilet with the diaper on and poop. Next cut a hole in the diaper and have them sit on the toilet and poop. Finally the thought is that you can take the diaper off and they will poop on the toilet. Something to think about. Good luck!

I have the same problem. My son is 3 now and potty trained since August as well, very confident for wees, but poos go in his pants. He never asks for a nappy. I am really desperate. Tried everything, sweets as a treat, toy, a chart with stars. Now he is at a stage, where he really wants to do it on the toilet and not in his pants, but once he is on the potty or toilet gets off and is afraid. He holds it back now, because he wants to be a big boy. I am afraid that this will cause even more problems now,... What can I do? Is going on for far too long now, I feel,...

Have you tried giving her M&Ms or stickers if she poops. Just to get her started.
