I've noticed that often when my son feels the need to go and pulls down his trainers he is erect. Is this a normal thing?

It's pretty normal actually for kids to have boners when they have to piss.

It is perfectly normal for little boys to have erections. You might not have noticed but your little man has had erections since birth. There is nothing sexual about it just a fact of life for little boys.

He is fine. It is a male thing.

As far as I know I think there is a difference between the erection caused by the urge to pee and the one caused by physical arousal, even though it looks the same from the outside.

I believe it is. My son does the same thing, I think it's the pressure from needing to pee. My husband brother and brother-in-law all say that's normal.
