DO NOT.
Children need to develop the strengh to hold it before you can start enforcing the potty. Now you can initiate the potty whenever you want but do not try to teach them until they are actualy phisicaly capable of it. and you will know they are ready when: they can walk, they can tell you they need to go, their diapers stays dry for a long time. at 8 months your probably still going through 8 plus diapers a day so that tells you the muscles are not ready yet, the child has no control over it. Speak with your doctor for more details on the subject.

I started when my daughter was 4 months. First get a potty, then put him on it at regular intervals (every 15 minutes at first) and tell him to 'go pee, poop, or potty..." or whatever words you're going to use. I kept my daughter in a diaper until she was 12 months, then we only used cloth training pants. But you need to watch for signs that he is going or needs to go. Ruby's cues were wiggling and complaining and/or beet red face. When he goes, clap and praise him and he will have plenty of accidents in the diaper, just make sure you change frequently. If you can switch to cloth diapers, that would be even better. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
