How to get your child out of diapers at night?

Val - posted on 04/16/2010 ( 3 moms have responded )

Any suggestions on how to get your child to stay dry during the night? My 4 year daughter is a very heavy sleeper and wakes in the morning with her diaper soaked. She has soaked the bed before and slept through it. Not sure what to do? Do I not worry about it and just let her continue wearing a diaper at night? What are your thoughts and suggestions?

I agree with Mandy...also maybe cut off her liquids a few hours before bedtime.... like I try to have dinner done by 630 or 700 after dinner and bath no drinks....if she doesnt have any known medical issues with her bladder I would try to make her go before she goes to be and get her up again between 12m and 2a and then maybe a little earlier than usual than the time she gets little one used to go between 3a and 6a in the bed so its just a matter of learning the patterns

You could try padded undies with a vinyl cover. If you use diapers, they can't feel when they are wet. We also limit fluids after dinner. You could also use cloth undies under a pull up or diaper. Some kids take longer to train at night since sometimes there might be a medical reason. I have friends that wake their kids up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night even.
