Yes dont bother until he is at least two years old and showing signs he is ready. It is medically proven that a child does not have full control over their bladder and bowel until then. Toilet training if a child is ready only takes a couple of weeks! If you put to much pressure on a child to be clean before there ready all you are doing is making the whole process stressful, when the child can not do anything about it.

The average age for a child to train is about 2 years 4 months. I have toilet trained three kids and never used a potty, I took them all to the toilet. Each child was different. My first son was 2 years 6 months, my second son was 2 and my daughter was 2 years 4 months. All three were trained within 2 weeks with a very rare accident after that for a couple of months. Then totally trained. Do not force your child to potty train it is just pointless, and it will go on forever.
