I have two little ones.... a boy (3years 8 months) and a girl (1year 8months).
With my boy I wait too much to star potty training...
I think good age is between 18months - 30 months... but no more than that. So I am starding with my little girl.
With her I think will be more easy because she is seeing what my little boy does.

i too go thru the same thing with the tears and actual vomiting from the sobbing!! he just lets me know when he has to go and i praise him EVERY time he sits on the toilet. i do not use a potty chair; i use a child sized toilet seat. we are pround when he goes and proud for him just sitting on the toilet and not going.

I have a son who is now 35 months. I potty trained him at 33 months using the 3 day book by Lora Jensen and he got it in one day.

It took 6 months for him to say "shorts" and not "panties."

Oh Melissa I feel for you. Our boy was 50% trained by casually putting him on the potty, he was happy and all was wonderful. We switched day homes and the lady there was potty training Hard Core with a little girl. After that day he was TERRIFIED OF making his PANTIES dirty and became Terrified of his Potty. I stopped all efforts of potty training and let him be until this last X-mas. I quit my Job last July to stay home and Raise Him and His little brother.
When he was ready in my eyes I bought the 3 day book and it worked like a charm. It was a very possitive experience. But he needed to be ready. They say 22 months is the time to start, he was not ready back then. But he was at 32 months.
Good luck to both of you and I hope you find the method that works for you.

let me warn you about the 3 dya thing. i tried it. after one day, i quit. my son was in hysteric tears by the end of the first day and fighting me every time i took him to the bathroom, which then made me cry because i was trying so hard, and i know he was too. it was just too much for both of us.. it was absolutely horrible, and i will not use it again later. i took his potty out of the bathroom, oput it back in his room, put him in pull ups, and he goes on his potty willingly now a few times every day. to lora's credit though, i do know quite a few people who have used the method with great success. i'm telling you this because unlike the book says, it does NOT work for everyone. but if you'd still like to try it, put in the coupon code circleofmoms for a discount. she came on not long ago and gave us the code. if you do a search for 3 day potty training on circle of moms, her post should come up.
EDIT TO ADD: what broke me was when he woke up the second morning and i praised him for being dry...and then i asked him if he wanted to go potty...he burst into tears.

I have a WONDERFUL tool that I SWEAR by! My son turned 2 in April and I just potty trained him in 3 days. NO JOKE! It works but you have to DEDICATE yourself to it fully for the 3 days- not turning back. Would you like to read about it?

All i did was let him come in the bathroom with me or my hubsand when we had to go. Well befor that i got him a potty chair. The he started wenting to try going , and now the only time he has pullups on is bed time.

I was told not to rush the child if they are not ready that they will do it on there own. How ever I do have 4 kids and I did try a couple ways that did work. 1 was to put some food coloring in the toilet and have them change the color (like blue dye mixed with yellow pee make green) and the other one for a boy is to turn them around on the toilet seat and give him a car and let him use the toilet lid as a race track for the cars. Good luck with it.

For my son, we started when he turned 2. We went straight to undies and set a potty timer to go off every 30 minutes. I gave him treats for keeping his undies dry and treats for successes in the toilet. Over a few weeks, he was holding it for up to 2 hours so the potty timer went off every 2 hours. We chose to train our son sitting down which helps with poo training. After 4 months of training, he started telling me when he had to go and we didn't have to use the timer anymore.
