We are using pull ups and it doesn't make a difference in our world.

My daughter will occassionally tell us when she has to go, but it's usually after the diaper is wet.  Of late, she has gone twice in one day with a dry diaper, but will not go #2 on the toilet at all.

She'll be 3 in March, so who even knows when she'll do it.  We're just letting her go at her own pace, and will discuss with the pediatrician at her next check up.  Don't think there's an issue, and she's done everything else "on time" so we're just waiting it out.

hey sam : i have tryed the pull up thing and i hear for little ones it is like peeing in dipers so the best advise  i can give you is skip the pullups all together he will get the idea sometime and will not like the wet feeling that he will feel in real big boy underware thats is what i use with my son when the potty thing dose work

Pull ups are evil.

First, you and your child have to be ready. That means, you need to be able to take him to the toilet - even if he says he doesn't want to go - every 30-60 minutes. We thought we'd toilet train our son over the holidays by going cold turkey - putting him in undies, and doing just that. Well, day one, we had ZERO accidents. But day two, he wouldn't pee on the toilet. He did pee on my chair just after we had tried to use the bathroom. Some kids just can't be bothered with the trappings of the toilet.

Pull ups are evil because, like diapers, kids can't tell when they're wet. Kids need to be uncomfortable. That's why, on average, parents who use CLOTH diapers have kids who toilet train earlier. If you're at home, try getting some cloth trainers. Gerber ones are available everywhere, and JC Penney has some called "A Wee Change". Put him in the trainers, and if you want, some plastic pants as a cover (something you may have to to look for). When he goes, he'll know he's wet!

I hope this is helpful. When we were using cloth, we were thisclose to toilet training, but then we switched to pre-school, where they won't allow cloth. We do use gDiapers, which are environmentally friendly, but they have a disposable inner core.

Good luck!

my son is scared to death of the toilet and the potty chair. Im trying the pampers cool alert trainning pull ups. but it doesnt seem to fase him. I just wish that he would tell me when he has to go, it would make it so much easier.

try this, if hes on the potty, try pouring luke warm water on his (winky) privite parts, he will most likely go, then get really excited. Like almost pee yourself excited. you might have to do it a couple of times but he'll get the hang of it. Just hang in there. they will only go when they are ready. I've come to that conclusion.
