I am a mother of three I have had two boys and no problem getting them to start potty training, but now my daughter wants and says she has to use the potty but then doesnt go. Does anyone have any helpful hints to help me to get her back on track she wants to do this i just dont want to scare her...thanks

I actually started mine at 22 month and used this method: http://www.babycenter.com/0_potty-traini...

You go without ANYTHING (except a skirt or lose pants) for 3 months, but for the first 3 days, nothing (read it, you'll see) because even underwear can feel like a diaper and then their mind is just conditioned to just go when they need to. It's all about reconditioning their mind to do something different when they feel the need to go. If her dad is not on the same page, I wouldn't start - it's going to get VERY confusing for her if it's not consistent. That can prolong the process by many many months. Doing this method consistently, and my daughter was completely potty trained (except at night) in 6 weeks, so by the time she was 2.

By the way, that princess idea was thought of in early April becuase I noticed how upset she became when her brother teased her on not being a princess one day. If I had only thought of it earlier.... My next step is to stop her from sucking her thumb... which coincidentaly princesses also dont do (lol).

She is turning 3 on August 8th. I had been trying since September and counted 5 times since then till 2 months ago that she used the potty here at home, at my sister-in-law and mother-in-laws home. Soooo, officially she was 32 months old? 2 years and 8 months when she decided she no longer wanted diapers. I gotta say my son was easier to potty train than she was. Needless to say, mommy went out and got her princess undies and gave my sister-in-law a huge box of diapers we had just bought at Sams Club (expecting it would be a while for her to be trained)...

what worked for me was letting her know that she could not be a princess because princesses did not used diapers and she still did. I will have you know that within 3 days she no longer needed diapers. At all, even at night! woo hoo! Then again this only worked because she likes to be called a princess.

It helped to pour a warm cup of water down her belly. Grandma's old trick.

Thanks Shannon, I'll keep working with her. It's not the easiest thing to do. Oh, how old did your kids start using a spoon or fork? I can't get mine to use it....she tries but she'd rather use her fingers. Urrrggg!!!!

My toddler does the same Shannon. She says it but when I sit her down she won't go because she had already gone in her diaper. She is 20 months old....is this still too young to potty train?

I would put her on it at regular intervals, like once she wakes up, before nap, before bedtime, it evens out to about every 30-45 minutes. Then as she gets older you can increase the time to every hour. If she says she has to go, maybe she already went? Make sure you're not using diapers anymore, just start using underwear/cloth training pants.
