hi im going to start potty training my 2 1/2yrs old son and im wanting to know would it be easier / better to use a little potty for him to sit on or to just go straight into using the normal toilet, but have a toddler seat with it for him to use. ive talked to plunket and they say that either way is good, but i thought id ask other mums what they think is best to. please any suggestions?

Potty chair! Can go with you wherever you go in the house... I know when I was training my daughter, it was usually urgent, so having something portable was really handy to me!

My son had no problems using the big toilet without an insert, just a step stool, and he started at 20 months. It only took a few times for him to learn to balance on his own. I find it so much simpler and easier, and I'm glad he took to it so easily. It helped that he saw his older brother using it.

My son uses the toilet mostly b/c he saw his daddy peeing in it and now he has to pee like a "man". Pooping is another story not sure how to get him on the toilet since he is scared of it but he refuses to sit on the potty chair as well.

Hi Melissa. my twin girls r 2 years and 2 months old. i'm about to potty trian my girls as well. but for me i decided to train them on the normal toilet with their toddler seats ubove. for me it would b easier than potty training then after a while another training to toilet train .. !

We have both! My son prefers to use the potty seat for #2 and the big potty for pee. He just started to go standing up and loves to aim the pee into the potty. I try to let him choose the big potty or the potty seat and make it fun for him. Definitely have a step stool if you use the big potty.

WELL MY 19MTH OLD SON USES THE NORMAL TOILET AND JUST HAS THIS TODDLER TOP THAT HOOKS TO THE TOP...
AND ITS SPONGEBOB AND HE LOVES IT ALOT

my son was not into the big toilet so my partner bought him a toilet seat with a step attached and now hes almost 3 and is already toileting because he feels comfortable with his toilet seat. I dont like the pottys as it means cleaning afterwards..with the toilet seat on top of the adult toilet its easier cause as they get older you can remove their tolet seat so they can move onto the adult seat. this also means i dont have to clean up afterwards lol...he goes to the toilet..and just last night he did his first poo on the toilet...yay!!

My girls are scared of the big potty, but if you can try it, it would be easier for him to go when out in public...

When our youngest son Gage turned 1 we bought the small toddler seat that fits over the toilet. at first my son was scared, we put him on it and held onto him until he felt comfortable enough by himself, we make sure there is a step stool in the bathroom and he just goes in there on his own and puts his seat on and climbs up. I would say to introduce it first and give him time to get used to it before you take the next step of what he is supposed to do.

Our oldest was scared of the toilet so we started with a potty chair. The change to the big potty was very easy and we carried a small travel toddler seat for other people's toilets or public restrooms. She was completely potty trained & already transitioned to "big girl potty" before she was 3.
