It could be that he isn't ready, but the way my oldest two trained was "nature's way" you could say. My older dd's bday is in July and she trained easily the summer she turned 2. She wore sundresses without any underwear and we just played outside most of the time with a potty chair outside. I also took her to the bathroom with me and she would clap for mommy when I went in the toilet. ;) My son was almost 2 1/2 before he trained but it was the same kind of situation. We were camping with my in-laws and the guys were off somewhere when he came running back ahead of my dh and his dad yelling, "mama, grandma! Grandpa peed in the river!" He was so shocked and thought for sure Grandpa would be in big trouble, and he was surprised when we explained that when camping, it is okay to 'water the trees' so to speak. He asked if he could water trees and by the end of the 2 week trip, he was trained. We just let him run around in a tshirt and his shoes with no diaper. He did spend the first couple weeks back home peeing off our back deck before we convinced him that the toilet was a fun place to pee too, but then things were fine. My third is 20 months and was by far the easiest. She has been in big girl panties for a month, but that just goes to point out that all kids are different and when they are ready they will cooperate. Good luck!

I potty trained my now 4yr old daughter with no problem, but my 2 1/2 year old son refuses! I wonder if boys just have a harder time. We tried stickers, treats, and nothing. Now we started doing "fireworks" when he goes on potty (we all hold hands and yell fireworks and jump up ~ my husband & I have the kids jump super high ~ and he loves it. It works sometimes and other times it doesn't.

It depends, theyare going to use the potty when they are ready and not before. Try not to get upset, this only makes it worse. Does he show any interest in the potty? It can not be something that you are forcing him to do, he will never want to. The best thing that helped me was to get the training underwear they are found in the baby section at wal-mart.Not in the kids underwear. They are made a little thicker and hold the pee in pretty well, lol. Let him wear them all day. He will not like the feel of wet under wear and will get the hang of it. When he has them on you have to ask him every 15-20 minutes if he has to go potty. It gets tiring but is very much worth it. He will start to realize that this is now a part of his routine. If he is showing no signs of being interested then I would start with maybe him on it when your going potty. When you are done show him that you went potty like a big kid and then flush. Make it a happy thing. Come up with a song maybe a dance. Lots of encouragment will go a very long way. Hope this helps.
