Potty training a 16 month old

My son is 16 months old, he has been using the potty once in a while since he was about 12 months, recently he has started to take off his own diaper is this a sign he is ready to start full training?? I know he is young. If so does anyone have any tips?? Also an older friend told me if you potty train a boy too young some muscle may not develop right down there and he may have accidents. Has anyone else heard this?

i no what you mean my daughter is the same age and is aware of her nappy. she says weewee and poopoo and gets you to change her nappy before she has a poo most cases cos she wont do it in an already used nappy but she has only done a wee on potty once so far :S

My little one is almost 23 months and she just started at daycare about a week ago and so we are slowly working on it at home. I was always told don't rush it and stay positive with them. Elmo Potty Training DVD is pretty good it engages the child and has a book for parents.

I started my son around the same age because he was showing signs of being ready. Taking their diaper off is one of the signs they are ready to start, it means they are becoming aware of what they are doing and what that and the diaper feels like with it. I just let my little man run the show, there's no rush at that age. Encourage it and reward potty time, when he doesn't go, don't mention it to him, just move on. I haven't ever heard of early potty training causing problems, although I did a search and found the opposite.

My son will be 3 in March, he is almost completely potty trained. He no longer has accidents, he only has to get over the peeing in a diaper at night, he doesn't do that during naps.
