My Daughter is 20 months, her dad and i are having a hard time getting her to actually sit on her potty, she makes Barbie pee about 10-15 times a day. I know she gets the concept of going on her potty, she did tell us when she had to go for a few months, but it was always to late. She's in a bad habbit of not telling us now, taking off her wet diaper and throwing it at us... yuck! I'm glad that she know a wet diaper is uncomfortable, and she needs to be changed but I don't know how to break her of this habbit, and to actually sit on her potty! any suggestions?????

thank you in advance!

Stop using a diaper. Use panies, and make her sit on the potty after she wets herself. It might take a while but she should pick up pretty quick that its not fun getting all wet.

Hi Shannon,

The first thing you need to consider is if your daughter is truly ready.  You will know this by checking the signs of readiness.  Children have to be ready on many levels, physically their body needs to be developed enough to control bladder and bowels) emotionally (wanting to participate in the process) and cognitively (they need to understand what they are doing and make the connection between having to go and what they need to do).

Go to www.pottytots.com for help with potty training.  You can get free advice  signs of readiness and tips on potty training and there are free interactive games and activities for kids.  There are potty training kits that include a story book, animated DVD with music videos and a potty song (to help kids remember the steps to potty training) an illustrated potty chart and a fun game with clings called the "Toilet Bowl" game to keep track of their successes.  The program is a lot of FUN for kids and takes the stress out of potty training for parents because it takes the "power struggle" out of potty training.
