Potty training a toddler, when both parents work all day.

Right now my husband and I both work and we drop my 2 1/2 yr old off at daycare from 7-5. We are trying to potty train him, but until he has been out of diapers for 2 weeks he has to continue wearing diapers at daycare. He says he wants to go pee pee/poopy on the potty and stands over the toilet, but has yet to do anything.

Any advice from working parents on how to potty train when the only time you see him is at night and on the weekend.

Thanks,
Mother in need of a potty trained toddler

I guess we'll have to try the 3 day, but we'll have to try 2 day because my husband and I both work Fridays. He has to have the basic concept down before he can be out of diapers at daycare.

you could try the 3 day method over a long weekend. prepare him ahead of time make sure he knows everythign he needs to about the potty, count down to the d-day...

and than it's basically 3 days of your life are potty. you stay home, watch him for signs that he needs to go (best is to let him run around bare bottomed or in undies only) and as soon as you see he has to go put him on the potty. it make sense to have the potty nearby and you should plan some activities with him to keep him busy and you are close by. most kids get the hang of it very quickly at day 1 or 2. there is some variation of this 3 day thing, some include a short outing on day 2... google potty training in 3 days. some kids refuse this method, but it's worth a try. if you feel it's not working after a day or so you can stop not to put fear or something on him.

the only problem is really the daycare's request to be out of diapers for 2 weeks before he can take them off in daycare. it's confusing and recommended once you started without diapers to put them back on. maybe you could talk to them. it is almost impossible to potty train with diapers on. or you'll have to aim for it during vacation that's long enough.
