Help! My son is almost 2 years old, and was showing all signs of being ready for potty training. We tried last month, but only for 3 days. He loves sitting on the potty and reading stories etc., but just wont pee or poo in it. In the 3 days we went through 25 pairs of pants. He'd start peeing, realise it was wrong, stop, sit on potty for 10 minutes, no more pee, clean pants on, and within minutes if not seconds, the peeing would start again, and the whole cycle would repeat itself. This would go on for about 1 hour per pee, with not a drop in the potty! Has anyone else had a similar experience? How was it overcome? I'm thinking of trying again next month.

Hi

My son is the same, for over a month he has sat on his potty whenever i got it out but never had a wee on it.

Today me and his daddy decided to really try hard and it paid off....he finally had a wee!!! 3 up to now. We sat him on the potty every 15-30 minutes and read a book but we also gave him alot to drink which i think has helped him to go. I will now be doing the same thing every day.... also a star chart is good, we gave him a sticker to place on it every time he had a wee today and had a big fuss of him.....really over the top, clapping and cheering (he loved it)

Hope this helps

I had the same issue with my daughter, she would get the potty out, sit on it and watch tv, read books but not pee. But I left her without a nappy on for round about the full day and she just kept going to the potty to wee on it, I think it was because she knew she dint have a nappy on and that its naughty to do anything on the floor. Just leave him without a nappy on for a while and if he knows when he needs a pee tell him to use the potty and pretend to sit on one yourself because they are more likely to do it if you are.

Maybe try letting him play with some warm water while sitting there, or try pouring some warm water down his penis while he sits there.  Also, if he pees his clothes when standing up maybe try teaching him to pee while standing at the toilet, although dad would probably have to do this.  Hope this helps.  :D

I have the same issue. He likes sitting and acting the part of going but won't. I've tried hit the cheerios game and rewarding. No go. But he will occassionally poop on the potty which to me is odd.
